I TOOK THIS PHOTO OF IT SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE CENTRAL COMMUNITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY 40TH ANNIVERSARY IN DOWNTOWN
DEWITT.
ANN SOENKSEN STARTED THE SOCIETY AND HAS BEEN THE CURATOR ALL 40 YEARS. SHE GREETED VISITORS FROM 1 UNTIL 4 IN THE MAIN BUILDING.
THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER BUILDINGS. IT IS A VERY LARGE, VERY NICE
MUSEUM ON THE CORNER IN DOWNTOWN DEWITT. OPEN EVERY
SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND NO ADMISSION.
RED HENTON WAS THERE TO ENTERTAIN. JUST AFTER THIS PHOTO HE
ASKED EVERYONE TO JOIN-IN SINGING "YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE".
THERE WERE COOKIES BY THE DOZENS TO PICK FROM AND ICE CREAM TOO.
ANN DEPENDS ON A LOT OF VOLUNTEERS AND BOB LEE, ABOVE, IS
ONE OF THEM. SO IS HIS WIFE RAMONA. BOB, BACK A DOZEN YEARS OR MORE, LIVED IN MAQUOKETA AND WAS THE MANAGER OF "SKEFFINGTON'S JACK AND JILL STORE" IN MAQUOKETA. NOW RETIRED.
ANOTHER VOLUNTEER, JUDY KETELSEN, DID THE SPINNING WHEEL
DEMONSTRATION THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON.
WHAT'S A MUSEUM FARM EQUIPMENT DISPLAY WITHOUT A THRESHING
MACHINE. THEY HAVE ONE. OUT OF FOCUS ME, WHEN IN HIGH SCHOOL
AND LIVING ON THE FARM FOR 2 YEARS, USED TO TEND BLOWER ON ONE LIKE THIS.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ANN, THE VOLUNTEERS, AND MEMBERS OF THE CENTRAL COMMUNITY HISTORICAL SOCIEY OF DEWITT AND THE SURROUNDING AREA.
TWO OF IOWA'S BIGGEST FARM LEADERS WERE
ON "JUST TALK" THIS MORNING. AT LEFT, JOE
HEINRICH OF RURAL MAQUOKETA,VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE IOWA FARM BUREAU AND MATT DEPPE OF
LaMOTTE, C.E.O OF THE IOWA CATTLEMEN'S
ASSOCIATION. THEY TOLD ABOUT A RECENT
TRIP THEY WERE ON TO CHINA.
AN ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN LATE SATURDAY NIGHT
AT THE U.S. CELLULAR STORE ON WESTGATE
DRIVE IN MAQUOKETA. NO DETAILS YET.
CAN YOU SEE IT?
I WENT OUT AT 1 P.M. TO THE
HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER
FOR THE EXCITMENT OF SEEING THE
ECIPLSE. MANY KIDS AND ADULTS THERE LOOKING UP AT THE SKY.
WITH GLASSES, CEREAL BOXES, AND
OTHERS.
IT WAS EXCITING!
BUT..
IT WAS DISAPPOINTING!
1:13 P.M. CAME...
DARKNESS DID NOT COME.
FOR MOST...HARD TO SEE IT!
OR VERY LITTLE!
TWO REASONS....WE WERE NOT IN
LINE TO SEE IT AT ITS BEST....AND
IT WAS CLOUDY.
BUT A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL.
AS FOR ME...I'D RATHER LOOK UP
INTO THE SKY....
AT A DRIVE-IN MOVIE
