MONDAY DAILY REPORT

SUNNY THIS MORNING AND CLOUDY THIS AFTERNOON AND  HIGH OF
28.    NASTY WEATHER TONIGHT AND TOMORROW AND THEN COLDER
THAN IT SHOULD BE FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK.

A LONGTIME MAQUOKETA BUSINESSMAN DIED OVERNIGHT AT UNIVERSITY OF IOWA HOSPITALS IN IOWA  CITY FROM AN ACCIDENT LAST THURSDAY
AFTERNOON AT HIS BUSINESS.    FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ARE PENDING AT CARSON'S FOR 75 YEAR-OLD JAMES BEALER.    JIM BEALER WAS THE OWNER OF BEALER'S MOTORS AND TRANSMISSIONS AT 422 NORTH 2ND STREET ACROSS FROM THE CITY BASEBALL DIAMOND.   HE ESTABLISHED THE BUSINESS IN 1991 AND SOLD LOW-COST USED CARS AND PICKUPS AND DID TRANSMISSION WORK.    SHORTLY AFTER 4 P.M. LAST THURSDAY, HE WAS ALONE IN HIS SHOP  WORKING ON THE MUFFLER OF HIS PICKUP WITH A TORCH AND HIS CLOTHING CAUGHT ON FIRE.    BEALER MANAGED TO GET OUTSIDE THE BUILDING AND ROLL IN THE SNOW TO PUT OUT THE FIRE, BUT GOT BURNED ON OVER 30% OF HIS BODY.   HE MANAGED TO CALL HIS LONGTIME FRIEND (17 YEARS) JACKIE DUGGAN AT HE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WORKED.   THE AMBULANCE TOOK HIM TO THE HOSPITAL HERE IN MAQUOKETA AND THEN HE WAS  TRANSFERRED TO UNIVERSITY OF IOWA
HOSPITAL IN IOWA CITY.    HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS FRIEND, JACKIE, AND A SON AND DAUGHTER.

A FORMER MAQUOKETA POLICEMAN, BOB ANDERSEN TOLD THE DUBUQUE TELEGRAPH HERALD LAST WEEK THERE IS LITTLE
HOPE OF SOLVING THE MURDER OF AN 84-YEAR-OLD MAQUOKETA WOMAN 40 YEARS AGO.    HULDA FISHER WAS FOUND DEAD IN HER HOME ACROSS FROM THE BASEBALL DIAMOND.   A WIDOW, SHE HAD BEEN STRANGLED
AND REPEATEDLY STABBED.

THE BELLEVUE MARQUETTE BASKETBALL TEAM LOST IN OVERTIME SATURDAY NIGHT AND SO WE WILL HAVE NO TEAM FROM THE KMAQ
AREA IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT NEXT WEEK.   CASCADE, IN OUR FRINGE AREA, WON AND WILL GO TO STATE.    THE CASCADE GIRLS AT AT STATE THIS WEEK TOO.

KELLY MEYER, AGE 46, OF NORTHFIELD, MINNESOTA, DIED UNEXPECTEDLY
LAST THURSDAY IN MINNEAPOLIS.    SHE WAS THE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER AT PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA....AND VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY.    IN 2013 SHE RECEIVED THE CHAMBER'S BUSINESS PERSON
OF THE YEAR AWARD.     SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER PARENTS, KENNETH AND BONNIE GRAU OF MAQUOKETA, A SISTER AND 3 BROTHERS.  THERE WILL BE AN OPEN HOUSE IN HER  HONOR FROM 3 TO 7 P.M. THIS WEDNESDAY AT THE CENTER STONE INN AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA.
