DIXIE "LEE" KARABIN AS THE NEW COUNTY ASSESSOR TO REPLACE
DEB LANE, WHO RESIGNED LAST MONTH. KARIBIN IS DEPUTY ASSESSOR IN THE MAQUOKETA OFFICE. SHE HAS BEEN IN THE ASSESSOR'S OFFICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS. NOW THE DECISION IS UP TO THE FULL JACKSON COUNTY CONFERENCE BOARD. MEMBERS HAVE 7 DAYS AFTER THE RECOMMENDATION TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT. THE EXAMINING BOARD INTERVIEWED 3 FOR THE JOB.
LEROY STAMP WILL CELEBRATE HIS 102ND BIRTHDAY TOMORROW. HE AND HIS WIFE OF NEARLY 75 YEARS HAVE LIVED AT CLOVER RIDGE PLACE
FOR OVER 3 YEARS.
TWO PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN MAQUOKETA AFTER A 2 CAR ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 61 AND HURSTVILLE ROAD AT 3:45 SATURDAY AFTERNOON. TANNER MOREHEAD, AGE 20, OF MAQUOKETA AND FRANCO ESCALANTE, AGE 21, OF PEKIN, ILLINOIS, WERE EACH TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR MINOR INJURIES. MOREHEAD WAS CHARGED WITH FAILURE TO YIELD UPON ENTERING A THROUGH HIGHWAY. $8,000 DAMAGE TO
MOREHEAD'S 2003 CHEVY AND $5,000 DAMAGE TO ESCALANTE'S 2004 DODGE.
STEVEN FISHWILD, AGE 54, OF MAQUOKETA WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE CAVE'S ROAD AT 10:30 SATURDAY MORNING. HE WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL AND HIT A PATCH OF ICE. $8,000 DAMAGE TO HIS 2007 CHEVY.
NO CHARGES FILED AND NO INJURIES.
SPENCER BAKER, AGE 17, LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE AT 4:30 FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND WAS CHARGED WITH FAILURE TO MAINTAIN
CONTROL. $5,000 DAMAGE TO THE 2007 PONTIAC REGISTERED TO BRIAN BAKER OF BALDWIN.
MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL SPECIAL OLYMPICS ATHLETES COMPETED IN THE 2014 SPECIAL OLYMPCIS IOWA STATE BOWLING TOURNAMENT IN CEDAR RAPIDS SATURDAY. EARNING 2ND PLACE SILVER MEDALS WERE LUKE
JOHNSON, RANDY JOHNSON, LOGAN JONES AND JADE KILBURG. THEIR
COACH IS JOYCE LANSING.
