WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

72 TODAY AND PT. SUNNY.
WE WILL BE IN THE 70'S THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

THE JAIL IN MAQUOKETA IS FULL.  THERE ARE 13 IN JAIL AND IT WAS BUILT FOR 11.    SOME HAVE BEEN  TAKEN TO A NEIGHBOR JAIL AT A COST OF $60 PER DAY.    SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN SAID THIS IS AS MANY PRISONERS
AS THEY'VE HAD FOR A LONG TIME.

IN THE ELECTION YESTERDAY,  SUPERVISOR JACK WILLEY GET 655 VOTES AND HIS OPPONENT, CITY COUNCILMAN TROY THEDE, 241.
WILLEY (R) HAS NO COMPETITION IN NOVEMBER.
IN THE OTHER SUPERVISOR OPENING, MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DIRECTOR TOM DEVINE DEFEATED JEFF HOLTZ, 417 TO 359
AND CARPENTER LARRY McDEVITT (D) DEFEATED HENRY KRAMER, 379 TO 210.
SO, IT WILL BE DEVINE AGAINST McDEVITT IN NOVEMBER.

 
THE CAPTIVE FEMALE TRUMPETER SWAN AT THE HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE
CENTER WAS FOUND DEAD BY STAFF MEMBERS.
THE CAUSE IS UNKNOWN BUT AT THIS TIME IT IS BELIEVED TO BE DUE SIMPLY TO OLD  AGE.   FREDERICKA WAS ESTIMATED TO BE 20 YEARS OLD.

SPORTS:   HIGH SCHOOL BOY'S BASEBALL LAST NIGHT, MAQUOKETA 5, WEST DELAWARE 2 IN THE FIRST GAME.   LINCOLN AUNAN THE WP.    CORY  WIRTH AND  TRENT BOLLMAN EACH HAD TWO HITS.    IN GAME TWO, WEST DELAWARE WON 8 TO 0.

MAQUOKETA'S ALLISON VANDEMORE TOOK 3RD PLACE IN THE STATE IN THE GIRL'S STATE GOLF TOURNAMENT MONDAY AND TUESDAY.
SHE GRADUATED FROM MCHS IN MAY.

IN SOCCER LAST NIGHT, MAQUOKETA GIRLS BEAT MARION 2 TO 1 IN CLASS 2-A REGIONAL ACTION HERE IN TOWN.    THE CARDINAL GIRLS NOW ADVANCE TO TAKE ON NORTH SCOTT AT ELDREDGE NEXT MONDAY NIGHT
AT 6 P.M.


VOTER TURN-OUT WAS LOW, BAD YESTERDAY IN JACKSON COUNTY
AND MANY OTHER PLACES IN IOWA.    AND THAT'S BAD!

ON THE GOOD SIDE.....MILK MAKES GOOD NEWS AGAIN DURING JUNE DAIRY MONTH.   ENJOY MILK, ICECREAM AND CHEESE OFTEN.

I'LL DRINK CHOCOLATE MILK TO THAT!
