YESTERDAY AT ROTARY, WE WERE TOLD BY JACKSON COUNTY ENGINEER
CLARK SCHLOZ THAT IOWA'S GASOLINE TAX IS 22-CENTS A GALLON.
THIS TAX IS USED FOR NEW ROADS AND BRIDGES OR REPAIR OF ROADS
AND BRIDGES. IOWA'S TAX IS RANKED 34 IN THE COUNTRY. ILLINOIS
(RANKED 5TH) HAS A TAX OF 39-CENTS PER GALLON. WISCONSIN IS
AT 33-CENTS. IOWA IS TRYING TO GET THE LEGISLATURE TO RAISE
THE TAX 10-CENTS A GALLON. IN JACKSON COUNTY, THAT WOULD MEAN
$500,000 MORE EACH YEAR FOR ROAD AND BRIDGE PROJECTS.
AND WE HAVE PLENTY OF EACH THAT ARE BAD. TALK TO YOUR LEGISLATURES AND THE GOVERNOR IF YOU EVER SEE HIM IN PERSON.
