THE PRESTON GIRLS WON THEIR OPENING STATE TOURNAMENT GAME
THIS AFTERNOON IN FORT DODGE, 7 TO O. FIRST TIME THEY HAVE WON
THEIR OPENING GAME. IT WAS BROADCAST ON KMAQ.
THEIR NEXT GAME IS AT 7 THIS THURSDAY NIGHT.
IF THE PRESTON BOYS WIN TOMORROW NIGHT, THEY ALSO GO TO THE
STATE TOURNAMENT. LAST YEAR, BOTH TEAMS WERE THERE.

THE MAQUOKETA PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEMBERS HAVE FIRED THE
LIBRARY DIRECTOR, LAUREN SIEBERT, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
BOARD PRESIDENT REBECCA LICHTER SAID A CERTIFIED LETTER WAS SENT
TO SIEBERT INFORMING HER OF THE TERMINATION THROUGH THE CITY
ATTORNEY'S OFFICE. LICHTER DECLINED TO SAY WHY THE BOARD
TERMINATED HER. FORMER LIBRARY DIRECTOR KAREN MANNING HAS
RETURNED AS ACTING DIRECTOR TO ASSIST WITH THE LIBRARY'S DAILY
OPERATIONS. MANNING RETIRED LAST FALL AFTER MANY YEARS WITH
THE LIBRARY. SIEBERT WAS HIRED TO REPLACE MANNING LAST OCTOBER.
BOARD MEMBERS PLAN TO BEGIN THE SEARCH FOR A NEW LIBRARY
DIRECTOR RIGHT AWAY.
IN JUNE SIEBERT (WHO HAS BEEN ON TWO-WEEK PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE) WAS CHARGED IN MAQUOKETA WITH OPERATING A VEHICLE
WHILE INTOXICATED, INTERFERENCE WITH OFFICIAL ACTS AND HAVING
NO CAR REGISTRATION.
LICHTER TOOK OVER AS NEW BOARD PRESIDENT OF THE LIBRARY ON JULY 1ST, REPLACING CONNIE TJARKS WHOSE TERM AS PRESIDENT ENDED JUNE 30TH.
TREVOR DENMAN, AGE 19, OF MAQUOKETA WS IN A ONE-CAR ACCIDENT
SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON THE LAKEHURST ROAD. HE APPROACHED A SHARP CURVE, HIS VEHICLE FLIPPED AND ROLLED ONCE,COMING TO REST ON
ITS WHEELS. HE WAS CHARGED WITH OPERATING A VEHICLE WHILE
INTOXICATED. $1,500 DAMAGE TO HIS 1998 FORD ESCORT AND
$500 DAMAGE TO A FENCE OWNED BY DON WAITE.
DOUG AND SHIRLEY WINEGAR OF MAQUOKETA WILL CELEBRATE THEIR
60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY JULY20TH. THEY HAVE 4 SONS AND
11 GRANDCHILDREN.
THE COMMUNITY CENTER ACROSS FROM GOODENOW FIELD IS NOW OPEN DAILY FROM SUN-UP TO SUN-DOWN FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO STOP
BY AND ENJOY ITS AIR-CONDITIONING.
THE MUSICAL "ALL SHOOK UP" WAS A HIT AND OVER 1,000 WATCHED IT
THIS PAST WEEKEND. I DIDN'T SEE IT, BUT JAKE BICKFORD TOLD ME
IT WAS GOOD. IT WAS A COMBINED OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER-PEACE PIPE PLAYERS PRODUCTION AND WAS DIRECTED BY RICH HALL, MANAGER OF THE THEATRE.
THE JONES COUNTY FAIR IS THIS WEEK. OUR FIRST BROADCAST FROM
THE FAIR WILL BE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT 4:05. FOR ALL THE DETAILS
