THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR, DAVE POPP, IS
LEAVING THE POSITION TO TAKE A SIMILAR ONE AT GRINNELL, A CITY
ON I-80 NEAR DES MOINES WITH A POPULAR COLLEGE AND A POPULATION
OF AROUND 9,000. HE HAS BEEN HERE 5 YEARS AND WILL START THERE
JUNE 6TH. HIS WIFE, LYNN, IS MANAGER OF THE WELL KNOWN CLOVER RIDGE PLACE RETIREMENT CENTER IN MAQUOKETA AND I ASSUME SHE WILL ALSO RESIGN FROM THAT POSITION SOONER OR LATER. I SEE HER WEEKLY AT THE
MAQUOKETA ROTARY MEETING WHERE SHE IS AN ACTIVE MEMBER. WILL HATE
THEM LEAVE THE COMMUNITY. BUT, THEY ARE GOING TO A VERY
NICE CITY. CHECK OUT THEIR WEB SITE....IT'S A DANDY.
SPEAKING OF ROTARY....YES....THERE WILL BE THE 10TH ANNUAL ROTARY
DUCK RACE AGAIN THIS SUMMER. AGAIN..WE'LL BE SELLING DUCKS FROM
MICHIGAN TO ARIZONA. MORE LATER.
JAMMIE GOODENOW AND CODY BROWN ARE PARENTS OF A BOY BORN SUNDAY AT FINLEY IN DUBUQUE. GRANDPARENTS ARE HAL AND ANGIE SPRAGUE OF
MAQUOKETA. PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS ARE ROY AND HEATHER GOODENOW
OF MAQUOKETA.
KEN KRAMER, AGE 73, OF HOLMEN, WISCONSIN AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA,
DIED FRIDAY. HE WAS A LONG TIME TROOPER WITH THE IOWA STATE
PATROL. WAS A TROOPER HERE IN MAQUOKETA FROM 1965 TO 1986.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, MARIA, A SON IN GUATEMALA CITY AND A DAUGHTER
MARY IN HOLMEN, PLUS 3 GRANDCHILDREN. SERVICES WILL BE HELD
AT THE FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA THURSDAY AT 3 P.M.
THE TORKELSON FUNERAL HOME IN SPARTA, WISCONSIN IS ASSISTING THE FAMILY.
KYLE BILLUPS, FIRST YEAR HEAD WRESTLING COACH AT MCHS, HAS RESIGNED
THAT POSITION. HE SAID HE DID NOT FEEL HE HAD THE TIME TO DEDICATE
TO TURN THE MAQUOKETA WRESTLING PROGRAM BACK INTO AN ELITE
PROGRAM IN THE STATE. HE WILL CONTINUE TO TEACH AT MIDDLE SCHOOL.
HE TOOK OVER LAST YEAR AS HEAD COACH AFTER TOD BOWMAN WAS ELECTED STATE SENATOR AND RESIGNED THE COACHING POSITION.
ENJOY THE NICE WEATHER WHILE IT LASTS....WHICH WON'T BE LONG.
IT IS GOING TO BE WET AND COLD LATER THIS WEEK.

good no more goofy decisions of how things "should" be with streets and turning lanes, hopefully someone with some sense gets in, i would try, and that is right "TRY" because i am not a friend nor know anyone with in so i am automatically out so.... yeah...that is how it works in this one of a kind place, unfair!
ReplyDeleteNow there's some places I hadn't thought about for a while - Sparta, Wisconsin is just outside Fort McCoy, so I went through Sparta many times with the Army Reserves on the way to annual field problems and Operation Desert Fix. And Guatemala City, I saw that a few times from the airport, compared to large cities I've seen it's about the size of Omaha (and a volcano can be seen from the airport, too, which is kinda cool).
