CLOUDY, WINDY DAY IN MAQUOKETA. HIGH OF 43.

BOY'S STATE TOURNAMENT GAMES IN DES MOINES THIS WEEK. NORTH CEDAR
WON THEIR OPENING GAME TODAY OVER CASCADE, 63 TO 53. MATT CLARK
IS A LITTLE UNDER THE WEATHER AND LEIGHTON HEPKER FILLED-IN FOR
HIM AT WELL FARGO ARENA THIS AFTERNOON. ;NORTH CEDAR WILL PLAY AGAIN ON THURSDAY.

THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS APPROVED A TAX INCREASE FOR THE COUNTY AT THEIR MEETING THIS MORNING. TWENTY-FIVE CENTS PER $1,000 ASSESSED VALUATION FOR THE RURAL BASIC FUND AND FIVE-CENTS PER $1,000 FOR
THE SUPPLEMENTAL LEVY. AT THE PUBLIC HEARING, NO ONE SPOKE AGAINST
THE RAISE. MUCH OF THE INCREASE IS NECESSARY FOR ROADS.

THE CITY COUNCIL VOTED LAST NIGHT NOT TO GO AHEAD WITH THE TRAIL FROM HORSESHOE POND PARK TO WAL MART, BUT SAID THEY WILL RE-BID IT THIS FALL.

MARJORIE MULLER, 84, DIED YESTERDAY AT HER HOME IN BELLEVUE.
SHE WAS BORN IN MAQUOKETA, THE DAUGHTER OF MERVIN AND NELLIE MERRICK.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE TWO DAUGHTERS AND ONE SON, MICHAEL MULLER OF MAQUOKETA. LAW-JONES FUNERAL HOME IN SAVANNA IS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.
