CLOUDY AND HIGH OF 28 TODAY.
TOMORROW, UP INTO THE 30'S.

THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS CUSTODIANS ARE ASKING FOR A 50-CENT
AN HOUR PAY RAISE. THE TWO SIDES MET TUESDAY. THE CUSTODIANS ARE REPRESENTED BY SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION LOCAL 199.
THEY ARE ALSO ASKING FOR A NIGHT SHIFT PREMIUM OF 30-CENTS AN HOUR.
AND THEY WANT THE DISTRICT TO PAY 100 PERCENT OF HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS. FURTHER DISCUSSIONS WILL BE IN CLOSED SESSIONS OF THE BOARD
AS ALLOWED BY LAW.

JACKSON COUNTY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN DECEMBER WAS 7.5 PERCENT, UP
FROM 7.1 IN NOVEMBER. THE STATE RATE DROPPED TO 6.3 FROM 6.6 IN NOVEMBER.

THE BLOOD DRIVE AT THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL YESTERDAY WAS
A GOOD SUCCESS. IT NETTED 105 UNITS OF BLOOD FOR THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY REGIONAL BLOOD CENTER, THE MAIN SOURCE OF BLOOD FOR THE LOCAL
HOSPITAL. THE DRIVE WAS SPONSORED BY THE HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICAN CLUB.
