HAPPY NEW YEAR!
IT IS SUNNY AND COLD IN THE TIMBER CITY TODAY....WAS ZERO THIS MORNING...
LOOKING FOR HIGH AROUND 15 TODAY.
WE HAD JUST UNDER 18 INCHES OF SNOW IN DECEMBER. TOTAL SNOW
IN 2009 HERE.....45 INCHES.....22 LESS THAN 2008.
HAVE NOT HAD REPORTS THIS WEEK....TOO BUSY. ALSO, BROTHER WAS
DOWN FOR ANNUAL HOLIDAY VISIT FROM MILWAUKEE AND I SPENT SOME
TIME WITH HIM. WE ALL WENT TO SEE "AVITAR" AT MY THEATRE...
WAS VERY GOOD. SEE IT IF YOU CAN. FIFTEEN YEARS IN THE MAKING....
$300 MILLION BUDGET....GOOD STORY LINE...SPECIAL EFFECTS...MUSIC... A LOVE
STORY TO AN EXTENT....GOOD SHOW. LONG...OVER 2 AND 1/2 HOURS.
IF YOU CAN SEE IT IN 3-DAY...ALL THE BETTER. I DON'T HAVE DIGITAL OR 3-D
YET...BECAUSE OF HIGH COST...BUT WILL HAVE TO GO SOMETIME...MAYBE ONE
SCREEN IN 2010.
LONGTIME MAQUOKETA ATTORNEY MARK LAWSON WAS NAMED LAST WEEK
TO BE THE NEW PART-TIME MAGISTRATE, REPLACING CORLIS BATY WHO DIED
IN EARLY DECEMBER. LAWSON HAS AN OFFICE IN MAQUOKETA AND LIVES
IN BELLEVUE.
JERRY NELSON, WHO IS RETIRING AS THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOLS DIRECTOR OF SUPPORT SERVICES THIS MONTH, WILL BE HONORED NEXT WEEK.
THE SCHOOL HAS DECLARED WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6TH AT JERRY NELSON
DAY AND A RECEPTION FOR HIM WILL BE HELD AFTER SCHOOL WEDNESDAY
AND A SHORT PROGRAM AT 4. THE PUBLIC IS WELCOME.
CITIZEN (X-MAYOR SINCE MIDNIGHT) TOM MESSERLI, IS ON THE AIR THIS MORNING ON KMAQ-FM. I WOULD NOT TELL HIM TO HIS FACE...BUT HE WAS A GOOD MAYOR.
NANCY AND I HAD WINE AND PRIME RIB LAST NIGHT AT THE DECKER HOTEL.
NICE TO HAVE A FINE PLACE IN MAQUOKETA LIKE THE DECKER FOR SPECIAL EVENINGS...OR ANYTIME. AS WE WERE EATING...WE COULD NOT HELP BUT WONDER WHAT WOULD BE SAID TO US IF THE WALLS COULD TALK....GOING BACK TO WHEN IT OPENED IN 1876. THANKS TO TROY AND RAEANN FOR THE NICE
FACILITY. WON'T BE TOO LONG AND THEIR 3 KIDS WILL BE HELPING RUN
THE PLACE.
YOUNG WRESTLERS WILL FILL THE NEW GYM TOMORROW. I'LL BE WATCHING
MY 7 YEAR-OLD GRANDSON, JACOB.
FIRST FULL WEEK WITH A BIG EFFORT....AND MAKE IT A GREAT FIRST OF 52 WEEKS.
DENNIS VOY
