A MAQUOKETA WOMAN HAS UNDERGONE SURGERY FOR INJURIES SHE RECEIVED IN A MOTORCYCLE CRASH LAST NIGHT NEAR SPRINGBROOK. KELLY SCHMIDT, AGE 46,
WAS TAKEN BY BELLEVUE AMBULANCE TO THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL AND THEN AIRLIFTED TO GENESIS IN DAVENPORT AFTER THE 5:12 P.M. ACCIDENT SUNDAY 5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF SPRINGBROOK. HER SPLEEN WAS REMOVED IN SURGERY THIS MORNING AND SHE IS RECOVERING WELL. SHE WAS DRIVING HER MOTORCYCLE AND HIT A WASHOUT IN THE ROAD AND SHE LOST CONTROL. SHE WAS WEARING A HELMET. HER HUSBAND, DENNIS, WAS RIDING HIS OWN MOTORCYCLE.
MAQUOKETA POLICE CHARGED NUMEROUS TEENAGERS THAT WERE AT AN UNDER-AGE BEER PARTY SATURDAY NIGHT AT 710 VINE STREET. MOST WERE AGE UNDER 18. POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE HOME AT 10:43 SATURDAY NIGHT TO A REPORT OF LOUD MUSIC. POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA SAID SOME OF THE YOUTH RAN FROM OFFICERS. THE CHIEF SAID ALL BUT ONE OF THE YOUTH WERE GIVEN PRELIMINARY BREATH TESTS. SOME TESTED ZERO FOR ALCOHOL AND SOME TESTED POSITIVE AND WERE CHARGED. THEY NAMES HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED AT THIS TIME.'
