THE CITY LIGHT PLANT CREWS TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE WEATHER TO TAKE DOWN THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS DOWNTOWN.
AT THE SUPERVIORS MEETING YESTERDAY, STEVE FLYNN WAS SWORN-IN AS NEW MEMBER OF THE COUNTY BOARD AND LARRY KOOS WAS NAMED CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD FOR 2007.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL LAST NIGHT VOTED TO HAVE THE SCOTT COUNTY YMCA MANAGE THE NEW ARC FACILITY IN MAQUOKETA, THAT WILL INCLUDE A NEW INDOOR SWIMMING POOL. ABOUT 50 ARC BACKERS ATTENDED THE MEETING TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE YMCA AND ALL CHEERED WITH THE 6 TO 1 VOTE. VOTING AGAINST THE PROPOSAL WAS COUNCILMAN GALEN SAUNDERS.
MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO A CAR FIRE WEST OF MAQUOKETA THIS MORNING, ON HIGHWAY 64. A CAR OWNED BY LYNETTE PITHAN OF LOST NATION WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES WHEN FIREMEN ARRIVED AND THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS.

THE FRIENDS OF JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION HAVE APPLIED FOR A GRANT FROM HAMBURGER HELPER FOR NEARLY $9,000. THE MONEY WOULD MAKE IMPROVEMENTS TO A FISHING POND NEXT TO THE NEW HURSTVILLE INTERPRETIVE CENTER SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA. BUT, THEY NEED HELP FROM YOU. TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO READ MY EXPLANATION
