THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD IS LOOKING AT A BUDGET FOR NEXT YEAR THAT WOULD SLIGHTLY REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF TAXES RESIDENTS ARE PAYING.
BOARD MEMBERS APPROVED A BUDGET WHICH WOULD RAISE $4,055,640 IN PROPERTY TAXES AT A RATE OF $15.90 PER $1,000 ASSESSED VALUATION AND THAT'S A DECREASE OF ABOUT 12-CENTS FROM LAST YEAR'S RATE OF $16.02.
ROSEANN ROBERTS, AGE 62, OF MAQUOKETA, DIED UNEXPECTEDLY TUESDAY MORNING AT HER HOME.
SHE OWNED AND OPERATED HER OWN BEAUTY SHOP FOR 41 YEARS UNTIL RETIRING. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND, WARREN, A DAUGHTER LORI KNOEBEL IN DES MOINES AND A DAUGHTER SARA ROBERTS IN DES MOINES, ALSO 4 GRANDCHILDRED, 1 BROTHER, ROBERT LARKEY IN MAQUOKETA, AND 2 SISTERS, ALICE BURMAHL IN MAQUOKETA AND ANOTHER SISTER, MARILYN, IN WISCONSIN.
