THE CITY COUNCIL FINANCE COMMITTEE MET THIS MORNING...AND THEY ARE GOING TO RECOMMEND TO THE WHOLE COUNCIL AT NEXT MONDAY NIGHTS REGULAR MEETING...THAT THE CITY TAKE THE ARC ISSUE TO THE PUBLIC IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION, FOR $1.25 MILLION DOLLARS. THE THREE MEMBERS THIS MORNING SAID THEY WANT THE CITY TO VOTE ON THE ISSUE. IT WILL TAKE A 60% YES VOTE TO PASS. THE TOTAL PROJECT WOULD BE OVER $4 MILLION AND WOULD INCLUDE AN INDOOR POOL, GYM, AND FITNESS CENTER.
A GIRL BORN TUESDAY TO RYAN AND AMY BECK OF PEORIA. GRANDPARENTS ARE DENNIS AND MARY BECK OF MAQUOKETA. THIS IS THEIR FIRST GRANDCHILD.
WELL KNOWN BALDWIN RESIDENT, WILLIE ROHWEDDER, AGE 76, DIED TUESDAY. HE WAS FORMER MAYOR AND COUNCILMAN, SERVING IN CITY GOVERNMENT A TOTAL OF 30 YEARS AND WAS ON THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR 48.
BETTY JANE OSTERT, AGE 69, DIED LAST NIGHT AT MERCY HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE. SHE AND HUSBAND FARMED FOR MANY YEARS NEAR MAQUOKETA. SURVIVORS INCLUDE: HUSBAND, RICHARD, AND 3 CHILDREN....SHERRY KEENEY OF ELWOOD....TERRY OSTERT OF MAQUOKETA....AND TINA BRUNDAGE OF MAQUOKETA....ALSO 10 GRANDCHILDREN.
RAY HASENBANK, AGE 90, OF CLARENCE DIED LAST SATURDAY. SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS SON, DENNIS, OF MAQUOKETA...ALSO HIS WIFE, IRENE AND 2 OTHER CHILDREN.
GEORGE MOORE CELEBRATED HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY YESTERDAY. HE IS A RETIRED MAQUOKETA MAIL CARRIER.
3 SONS....DAVID LIVES IN JANESVILLE, PHILLIP IN MADISON AND ALAN IN PHILADELPHIA.
HE AND LOIS HAVE 6 GRANDCHILDREN. WAS BIG BOY SCOUT LEADER FOR MANY YEARS.
