TOOK A NEARLY FULL BUS TO THE STATE FAIR YESTERDAY AND HAD GREAT WEATHER FOR THE TRIP. THE ATTENDANCE WAS EXCELLENT. LAST YEAR, THE MILLION ATTENDANCE MARK WAS REACHED FOR FIRST TIME AND GOOD CHANCE IT WILL BE MORE THIS YEAR. THE FAIR ENDS THIS SUNDAY. ALAN JACKSON ENTERTAINS FRIDAY NIGHT.
THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS MET YETERDAY AND ASKED ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS TO CUT THEIR CURRENT BUDGET BY 5-PERCENT. THE ACTION COMES AS A RESULT OF THE STATE CUTTING THE COUNTY'S BUDGET BY ABOUT $115,000. THE DEPARTMENT HEADS WERE ASKED TO RETURN THEIR PROPOSED REDUCTIONS BY MONDAY WITH SUPERVISORS RENIEWING THEM NEXT TUESDAY.
THE JACKSON COUNTY WELCOME CENTER...A REPLICA OF AN OLD ONE-ROOM SCHOOL...NEAR SABULA, WAS BURGLALRIZED MONDAY NIGHT OR EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. SOME CASH WAS TAKEN FROM A BASEMENT CASH REGISTER. THE BASEMENT CONTAINS A CONSIGNMENT STORE.
THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA IS HOSTING A PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING TONIGHT TO TALK ABOUT FUTURE LAND USE IN THE CITY.
MAQUOKETA'S NEW AMBULANCE GARAGE WEST OF THE HOSPITAL WAS THE TARGET OF VANDALS OVERNIGHT MONDAY.

IN MAGISTRATE COURT NEWS....BOB STUART, AGE 51, OF MAQUOKETA WAS CHARGED WITH THEFT OF VIDEO RENTALS FROM CINEMA MOVIE RENTALS IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. POLICE SAY HE RENTED TWO VIDEOS ON JUNE 19TH AND DID NOT RETURN THEM.
MIKE AND JILL YEAGER OF MAQUOKETA, ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN THIS PAST SUNDAY AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. GRANDPARENTS ARE MERLYN AND CAROL YEAGER AND SUE HUTTON OF MAQUOKETA.
WILFORD MILLER, AGE 87, DIED AUGUST 9TH. SURVIVORS INCLUDE A SON, GARY MILLER OF MAQUOKETA AND A SISTER, ERNESTINE OWEN OF MAQUOKETA.
