DINNER AND AWARDS PROGRAM, KATHY RECEIVED THE AWARD SHE
IS HOLDING FOR SYCAMORE CITIZEN OF THE YEAR, THE 34TH ANNUAL.
THE NOON DINNER WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 300. SHE WAS INTRODUCED BY
BOB HAMMOND (DIANE) WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING HER AND CURT
TO SYCAMORE MANY YEARS AGO TO WORK FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. HE
KNEW THEM BECAUSE HE WAS WITH THE MAQUOKETA DISTRICT FOR 13 YEARS,
STARTING IN 1971...AND AS PRINCIPAL...AND THEN MOVING TO SYCAMORE AS
SUPERINTENDENT. KATHY MOVED UP IN THE DISTRICT TO ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT AND SEVERAL YEARS LATER, WAS NAMED THE TOP ADMINISTRATOR. SHE RETIRES THIS JULY. KATHY HAS BEEN ON SEVERAL CHAMBER COMMITTEES OVER THE YEARS. SHE IS ALSO A PAST PRESIDENT OF THE
SYCAMORE ROTARY CLUB. BOB AND DIANE ARE BOTH RETIRED AND STILL LIVE IN SYCAMORE AND HAVE A SUMMER HOME IN LAKE GENEVA. CURT COUNTRYMAN AND KATHY BOTH GRADUATED FROM MCHS AND THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA. CURT RETIRED AS A P-E TEACHER AND COACH LAST YEAR AT SYCAMORE. THEY HAVE A SON AND DAUGHTER AND BOTH (AND THEIR SPOUSE) ARE ALL IN EDUCATION. THEY ALSO HAVE 4 GRAND CHILDREN.
GETTING CONGRATULATED BY BOB. SYCAMORE IS 2 HOURS EAST OF JACKSON
COUNTY ON HIGHWAY 64 AND IS A GROWING CITY OF 18,000.
KATHY WITH HER MOTHER NANCY OF MAQUOKETA. HER DAD WAS THE LATE
JAKE MOORE WHO DIED OF CANCER OVER 20 YEARS AGO. HER MOM ALSO
WAS IN EDUCATION AS ORIGINATOR AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SUNSHINE
SCHOOL FOR MANY YEARS. NANCY IS SEMI-RETIRED AND WORKS FOR
HER SON KEN (JULIE) MOORE IN MAQUOKETA. SHE ALSO HAS A SON STEVE (DIANE) IN DUBUQUE AND DAUGHTER SALLY (KENT) FUGLANG OF RURAL BALDWIN.
