THURSDAY DAILY
I SPOKE AT CLOVER RIDGE PLACE THIS NOON, GUEST OF SALLY DAVIES WHO TO MOST PEOPLE IS "MISS CLOVER RIDGE". TODAY WAS THEIR MONTHLY "LUNCH AND LEARN" AND ALL ARE OPEN TO THE RESIDENTS AND TO THE
PUBLIC AND ARE FREE.
WE ENJOYED A TURKEY DINNER AND IT WAS SUPER DELICIOUS, WITH DESSERT.
AT TABLE WITH NANCY AND I, RUSTY HAYES TO MY LEFT. EVERYONE KNOWS
RUSTY. ACROSS THE TABLE, BROTHER AND SISTER, KEN KILBURG AND VERNA
SCHMIDT. KEN (A 35 YEAR ELECTRICIAN, RETIRED) LIVES NORTH OF
BELLEVUE ON A SMALL ACREAGE. VERN AND HUSBAND LEVI TO HER LEFT,
(MARRIED 56 YEARS THIS THANKSGIVING) LIVE IN MAQUOKETA, ACROSS
FROM THE METHODIST CHURCH. THERE WERE 13 CHILDREN IN THE KILBURG
FAMILY, AND 9 STILL LIVE. THE YOUNGEST IS 75 AND THE OLDEST 100. THEIR
GRANDFATHER CAME FROM LUXENBURG WHEN HE WAS 2. THE SCHMIDT
FAMAILY HAD 20 CHILDREN. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS INTERESTING TO TALK
ABOUT LIFE IN LARGE FAMILIES.
I TALKED ABOUT 35 MINUTES ABOUT KMAQ'S 60 YEAR HISTORY AND INCLUDED
A LITTLE ABOUT MY THEATRES TOO. COMMENTS AFTER WERE POSITIVE ABOUT MY REMARKS. EVEN GOT A CARMEL APPLE FROM CLOVER RIDGE.
GOOD FRIEND SALLY (AND FELLOW ROTARIAN) DOES A LOT FOR CLOVER RIDGE IN HER JOB, CONSTANTLY PROMOTING THE ASSISTANT LIVING PLACE AND
INVITING PEOPLE TO COME AND TAKE A LOOK.
