TUESDAY DAILY

THE CHAMPION HEIFER AT THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR LAST SATURDAY WAS
SHOW BY A 5TH GRADER AT BELLEVUE HIGH SCHOOL, KINNICK PAULSON OF
RURAL PRESTON AND MEMBER OF THE BELLEVUE PIONEERS 4-H CLUB.   HIS
PARENTS ARE JEFF PAULSON  AND JODY KILBURG.    AND THAT'S HALF THE STORY.
IN THE AFTERNOON, HE ALSO HAD THE CHAMPION STEER.   THAT HARLDY EVER
HAPPENS....TO SHOW BOTH OF THE BIG WINNERS.

THE FAIR HAD RECORD ATTENDANCE .. 40,592
YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH BEER WAS ENJOYED BOTH FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.

WEDNESDAY DAILY

THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR PARADE WAS JUST STARTING AT 6 P.M. IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA WHEN LEIGHTON AND I STARTED  OUR BROADCAST OF THE PARADE ON KMAQ AND FM.    NEARLY PERFECT WEATHER FOR THE PARADE...A LITTLE WINDY.   AND A BIG TURNOUT.
MARK "SPARKY" ANDERSON WAS THE PARADE MARSHALL.     HONORED FOR
DECADES OF WORK WITH THE FAIR AND 4-H PROGRAM.
WITH 3 GENERATIONS OF VOLUNTEERS, THE FRANZEN FAMILY OF MONMOUTH IS THE "JACKSON COUNTY FAIR FAMILY".     MIKE IS UP FRONT WITH HAND IN AIR WAIVING TO  US.
THE LIONS BIG SWEET CORN SALE IS UNDERWAY AT THE CONVENIENCE STORE AT
ANDREW.    GREAT SWEET CORN.
THE 61 DRIVE-IN KIDDIE TRAIN WHICH GIVES FREE RIDES AT THE DRIVE-IN.   IT IS OVER 50 YEARS OLD AND JUST RE-PAINTED THIS YEAR.    THE ENGINEER IS CASEY CASEL.    I BOUGTH THE TRAIN THAT WAS IN A CEDAR RAPIDS SHED.  IT AT ONE TIME, GAVE RIDES AT THE OUTSIDE  MALL.    
THE FLOAT PROMOTING THE NEW BUILDING PLANNED FOR THE  HIGH SCHOOL GROUNDS FOR 4-H AND  FFA.

THE FAIR QUEEN IS HAILEY SCHWENKER, DAUGHTER OF MAYOR DON AND HIS WIFE
COLLEEN SCHWENKER AND A 2017 GRADUATE OF MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL.   SHE
ATTENDS THE UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE WHERE SHE IS WORKING TOWARD A 
DEGREE IN NURSING.   SHE WOULD LIKE TO BE A FLITE NURSE.
TRUCK AND TRACTOR PULL TONIGHT.
COOL WEATHER AND LITTLE OR NO RAIN IN FORECAST THROUGH THE END OF FAIR
ON SUNDAY NIGHT.

KATIE PAULS, THE NEW LIBRARY DIRECTOR FOR THE MAQUOKETA PUBLIC LIBRARY.
A NATIVE OF MAQUOKETA.   STARTED APRIL 2ND.   HAD ALWAYS WANTED A JOB
IN A LIBRARY AND IS HAPPY SHE GOT THIS POSITION AND IS HAPPY WITH THE 
JOB AND IS ADDING SOME THINGS AND HAS SOME NEW IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE.
SHE SPOKE AT ROTARY TODAY.

TOOK THIS INTERESTING YARD DISPLAY AT A FARM BETWEEN CANTON AND
SCOTCH GROVE.

WE ARE PRETTY PROUD OF OUR FLOWERS OUT FRONT, DONE FOR
US BY DUNES SCHROEDER WHO WORKS FOR RONANN'S FLOWERS.
IN THE PAST, WE ONLY USED EVERGREEN SHRUBS.   
NOW..WE LIKE THE FLOWERS BETTER.

MAQUOKETA THE LAST 24 HOURS.

FIREBALL....PUT ON LAST NIGHT BY THE MAQUOKETA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT IN  THE GREEN SPACE DOWNTOWN....WAS A HUGH SUCCESS!
I WAS THERE TWICE FOR A BEER AND BURGER AND TO TAKE SOME PICTURES.
AT 10 LAST NIGHT, THE CROWD WAS SO LARGE, ONE COULD HARDLY WALK AROUND.
THIS PHOTO EARLY RIGHT AFTER OPENING AT 5.
THIS WAS THE OPENING BAND, THE MATT MCPHERSON BAND.     NOTE THE BIG STAGE BROUGHT IN FOR THE BANDS.
 AT 9 P.M. THE BREAKFAST CLUB TOOK TO THE STAGE,     A GREAT BAND.


























THE SOUND SYSTEM WAS TERRIFIC!    I COUNTED 11 BARTENDERS AND NEARLY
THAT MANY IN THE FOOD STAND.    FIREMEN ALL HAD SPECIAL SHIRTS FOR THE
NIGHT SO WE KNEW WHO THEY WERE AND COULD SEE THE HARD WORK THEY
WERE DOING.  
ADMISSION JUST $5 ... YES..ONLY $5,
AND AFTER MIDNIGHT, THE FIREMEN CLEARED THE GREEN SPACE....THE STAGE
WAS GONE EARLY THIS MORNING .. THE FENCE GONE ..JUST A FEW THINGS
TO DO SUNDAY MORNING.
THE FIREMEN KNOW HOW TO THROW A FIRST CLASS BASH!!  THANKS GUYS!
AND THANKS FIREGALS TOO.

IT WAS A VERY BUSY NIGHT FOR ENTERTAINMENT IN KMAQ-LAND......

LAST FRIDAY NIGHT, THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL
BOYS BASEBALL TEAM LOST A DOUBLE-HEADER TO
WEST DELAWARE, 10 TO 0 AND 9 TO 3.    THE
CARDS ARE NOW 3 AND 33 OVERALL AND 3 AND 27 IN
THE WAMAC.    THEY PLAY THIS FRIDAY NIGHT IN A DISTRICT GAME AT 7 P.M. AGAINST DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION AT THE CARDINAL DIAMOND.

ATTENDED CHURCH TODAY AT THIS LITTLE COUNTRY CHURCH A FEW MILES NORTH OF MAQUOKETA JUST OFF HIGHWAY 61.      11 A.M. SERVICE AND POTLUCK DINNER
AFTER AT NOON.
TODAY'S PASTOR WAS ED BRIGGS OF MAQUOKETA.    THAT'S  MATT WALKER AT THE
PIANO IN CORNER, GRANDSON OF RED HENTON ANDA RESIDENT OF CEDAR RAPIDS.
PASTOR BRIGGS BROUGHT ALONG HIS GUITAR AND HIS WIFE TOOK TO THE PIANO
AND THEY SANG A NICE HYMN.    HE ALSO CONDUCTS SERVICES AT EAST IRON
HILL CHURCH.    THE FULTON CHURCH HAS A SERVICE TWICE A MONTH.     OPEN TO
ALL...NON-DENOMINATIONAL.


FOR SUPPER LAST NIGHT, WE  ENJOYED A BEEF AND PORK DINNER AT SUGAR
CREEK.    PROBABLY THE BEST CHURCH SUPPER IN THE KMAQ AREA.    I'VE BEEN
TO MANY.    OVER 15 HOME-MADE PIES TO CHOOSE FROM.


WE GO INSIDE THIS OLD SCHOOL FOR THE MEAL AND PIES.    SCHOOL NO LONGER
USED, EXCEPT FOR THIS BIG ANNUAL SUMMER LAWN SOCIAL.    
MUSIC EACH YEAR BY FAMOUS MAMA J
GOOD MUSIC
AND THAT'S THE BEAUTIFUL CHURCH.
GREAT PEOPLE AT ST. JOSEPH'S.
THANKS FOR PUTTING ON THIS SPECIAL SOCIAL EACH SUMMER.

LET'S SEE...THRESHER'S MEAL AT MILES  SATURDAY....POTLUCK DINNER THIS NOON AT FULTON....AND THE SUPPER TONIGHT AT SUGAR CREEK.....LOTS OF FOOD (TOO MUCH) DURING THE WEEKEND.   BUT IT WAS ALL SOOO GOOD!     WILL HAVE
TO EAT LESS THIS WEEK AGAIN, BEFORE JUMPING ON THE SCALE.
