WAS ON TWO DAYS OF VACATION TO MILWAUKEE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, REASON
FOR NO DAILY EACH DAY.
SAW THE CARDINAL GET BADLY BEATEN BY THE BREWERS. BUT SINCE I AM
A NATIVE OF WISCONSIN, THE BREWERS ARE MY 2ND TEAM. YES..BROKE MY
GLASSES AND WOULD HAVE BETTER TO NOT HAVE THEM AT ALL FOR WHAT
I SAW FOR 8 INNINGS...LEFT GAME IN TOP OF 9TH. HAD GOOD $44 SEATS EACH,
AND $20 FOR PARKING. $8 BEER. $5 WATER. DINNER AT FRIDAYS IN STADIUM
WAS EXCELLENT. ALSO SAW MY BROTHER WHO IS RETIRED AND LIVES THERE,
BUT BECAUSE HE HAD A SUDDEN HEALTH ISSUE, DID NOT GO TO THE GAME
WITH US. HAD BREAKFAST WITH HIM NEXT MORNING AFTER STAYING OVER
NIGHT AT A PACKED HYATT PLACE IN BUTLER WHERE HE LIVES, SMALLTOWN
SUBERB OF MILWAUKEE.
ROOF WAS CLOSED. 32,000 FANS. THE FIRST PITCH OF GAME WAS A HOME RUN
BY CARDINAL 3RD BASEMAN MATT CARPENTER. THE GAME WENT DOWN HILL
FROM THEN ON. BEAUTIFUL STADIUM. GO TO MADISON AND TAKE I-94 EAST
RIGHT TO STADIUM. LOTS OF SOMMER HIGHWAY WORK SLOWS YOU DOWN,
SO IT IS A 4 HOUR TRIP.
ON WAY HOME, STOPPED AT FT. ATKINSON TO VISIT BOB BROWN. MY FIRST AND
ONLY RADIO BOSS. HIRED ME AT KMAQ IN 1958 AND MANAGED KMAQ FOR A YEAR
UNTIL HE TRANSFERRED TO NEW STATION AT FORT ATKINSON, WFAW, PUT ON AIR
BY SAME TRIO THAT THEN OWNED KMAQ. BOB LOST HIS WIFE 2 YEARS AGO AND
NOW LIVES ALONE AT 97. SPOTLESS NICE HOME. HE IS SHARP WITH A COUPLE
HEALTH ISSUES HE IS DEALING WITH, THANKS TO HELP FROM SON AND FAMILY IN
MADISON AND A DAUGHTER AND FAMILY NOT FAR AWAY EITHER. IT WAS BOB
THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ESTABLISHING THE POLKA PARTY ON KMAQ
NEARLY 60 YEARS AGO.
THIS IS WHAT THE NEW SMALLER MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE AT SABULA LOOKS
LIKE .. AS OF WEDNEDAY WHEN WE TOOK A LOOK AT IT. LOTS TO DO BUT
SUPPOSED TO BE DONE BY LABOR DAY.
FERRY SERVICE HAS BEEN BUSY. WILL GO BACK SOON FOR A FERRY RIDE.
ATE AT A NICE FAMILY RESTAURANT ON HIGHWAY 64 IN SABULA....CAN'T MISS
IT...HAS A BIG "RESTAURANT" SIGN ON FRONT OF BUILDING.
