ACT OF VANDALISM AT HIS HOME ON 21ST STREET. EINAR JOHNSON SAID DAMAGE WAS DONE TO HIS GARAGE SIDING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS HOLES IN THE SIDING WITH WHAT APPEARED TO BE FROM SHOTGUN
PELLETS. NO DOLLAR AMOUNT OF DAMGE WAS MENTIONED.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEET LAST NIGHT AND APPROVED THE BUDGET FOR NEXT YEAR, WITH TAX ASKING SLIGHTLY MORE THAN LAST YEAR. IT WILL BE $12.65 PER $1,000 ASSESSED VALUATION, UP 53 CENTS FROM THE CURRENT YEAR. AN EARLIER LARGER ASKING WAS TALKED ABOUT BUT THE FINANCE COMMITTEE MET, FOUND SOME WAYS TO LOWER,
AND SUGGESTED THE $12.65 RATE WHICH AS APPROVED TODAY. THE VOTE WAS 6 TO 1 WITH NEW COUNCILMAN CHUCK CURRENT VOTING NO AND TELLING KMAQ NEWS HE VOTED NO BECAUSE HE WAS IN FAVOR OF
A HIGHER RATE FOR NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY THAT HE FEELS
SHOULD BE DEALT WITH AND NOT POSTPONED.
