A SNOWY, WINTER DAY YESTERDAY THANKS TO ABOUT 4 INCHES OF NEW
SNOW IN MAQUOKETA. OUR 3RD SNOWFALL OF THE WINTER. BUT,
UP INTO THE LOW 30'S TODAY AND THE SNOW STARTED DISAPPEARING
AND BY THE END OF THE WEEK, MOST WILL BE GONE AS WE ARE LOOKING
FOR A HIGH IN THE LOW 50'S BY FRIDAY.
THE "PEACE PIPE PLAYERS" LITTLE THEATRE WAS STARTED 50 YEARS AGO
IN MAQUOKETA AND WILL CELEBRATE ITS 50TH ALL YEAR.
THE FIRST PRODUCTIONS WERE HELD IN BOYER HALL AT THE FAIRGROUNDS. THEN THE LATE ED KIRCHOFF DONATED THE OLD
CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR THEATRE PRODUCTIONS AND THE FIRST ONE AT
THE CHURCH (WITH 170 USED THEATRE SEATS INSTALLED) WAS IN 1974.
IT WAS "CABARET" AND WAS DIRECTED BY DEAN AND KAREN TILTON, NOW
RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGES IN FLORIDA. IN TWO WEEKS, IT WILL BE
PRESENTED AGAIN AND THIS TIME AT THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER,
PPP HOME FOR GOING ON 10 YEARS, WITH ITS 850 SEATS.
THE STAR OF THE SHOW IN 1974 (ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS) WAS THE LATE ROCHELLE RAY, WHO HAD THE LEAD OF SALLY BOWLES.
I WILL HAVE MORE PHOTOS FROM THE FIRST PRODUCTION AND MORE ABOUT THE UPCOMING ONE ON FUTURE "DAILY REPORTS". SOME OF YOU THAT LIVE AWAY MAY WANT TO COME HOME
TO MAQUOKETA AND SEE IT, FEB 26, 27 OR 28.
BILL AND CAROL IHRIG OF RURAL MONMOUTH WILL BE HONORED AS THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR FAMILY FOR 2016. FAIR MANAGER LANNY SIMPSON MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT ON TODAY'S "JUST TALK" SHOW ON
KMAQ. THE IHRIGS ARE JACKSON COUNTY 4-H ALUMNI. THEY HAVE SERVED AS LEADERS AND THEIR CHILDREN WERE INVOLVED IN 4-H. NOW THEIR GRANDCHILDREN ARE TAKING THEIR TURN. BILL AND CAROL HAVE VOLUNTEERED AT THE FAIR IN RECENT YEARS AS FAIR ASSOCIATION MEMBERS. THE IHRIG'S WILL BE HONORED DURING A PROGRAM ON SUNDAY BEFORE THE FAIR AND WILL RIDE IN THE PARADE. SPEAKING OF THE PARADE, SIMPSON ALSO ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT BOB AND MYRNA LARKEY OF MAQUOKETA WILL SERVE AS THE GRAND MARSHALLS FOR THIS YEAR'S FAIR PARADE. THE LARKEY'S, OWNERS OF MAQUOKETA LIVESTOCK SALES, HAVE BEEN LONG-TIME SUPPORTERS AND PROMOTERS OF THE FAIR.
YESTERDAY, I GOT THE EMAIL BELOW AND DECIDED I WOULD SHARE IT
WITH YOU.
I'M SURE MANY OF OUR LISTENERS WOULD AGREE WITH ABOVE, BUT
MANY WOULD SAY WE ARE OLD FASHIONED. WE LIKE TO BE "LIVE" WITH
LOTS OF LOCAL INFORMATION AND A VARIETY OF GOOD MUSIC, NOT AN
AUTOMATED STATION SOUNDING MOSTLY LIKE A JUKE BOX.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK.
