DIDN'T AND SO OUR HIGH WAS LESS THAN PREDICTED, ONLY 36, UP ONLY 4 DEGREES FROM LAST NIGHT'S LOW. CLEAR SKIES TONIGHT AND LOW
OF 25. SUNNY TOMORROW AND HIGH OF 46 AFTER SOME PATCHY FOG
IN THE EARLY MORNING.
MAQUOKETA NATIVES JERRE STEAD AND WIFE MARY JOY
GRADUATED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA IN THE 60'S AND HAVE DONE
WELL. SO WELL, THAT OVER THE YEARS, THEY HAVE GIVEN NEARLY $60 MILLION TO THE UNIVERSITY AND WHEN THE NEW 14-STORY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IS DEDICATED A YEAR FROM NOW, IT WILL BE KNOWN AS "THE STEAD FAMILY UNIVERSITY OF IOWA CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL". THIS
NAME DECISION WAS MADE AT THE REGENT'S MEETING YESTERDAY,
WITH A VOTE OF 9 TO 0. JERRE STEAD'S FATHER WAS VICTOR STEAD
OF MAQUOKETA, WHO SOLD INSURANCE HERE. MARY JOY'S FATHER
WAS GEORGE KLOPPENBERG, WHO WAS AN EXECUTIVE WITH CLINTON
ENGINES IN MAQUOKETA. ALL FOUR PARENTS ARE DECEASED.
JERRE STEAD WAS A CEO FOR SEVERAL BIG COMPANIES DURING
HIS CAREER AND IS NOW SEMI-RETIRED AND THEY LIVE IN ARIZONA.
