SUNDAY IN JACKSON COUNTY

A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO GET OUT AND SEE BEAUTIFUL JACKSON COUNTY!
NANCY AND I (WITH CAMERA) LEFT THE HOUSE
AT 10:30 FOR FULTON AND THE 11 A.M. SERVICE AT
THE REFURBISHED FULTON COMMUNITY CHURCH.
RED HENTON SAVED IT YEARS AGO.    ABOUT 20 WERE PRESENT FOR THE SERVICE CONDUCTED BY
WARTBURG SEMINARY STUDENT ELIZABETH LIPOPKE.    MATT WALKER (RED'S GRANDSON FROM CEDAR RAPIDS) IS THE ORGANIST FOR THE
TWO SERVICES EACH MONTY.
FROM  THERE AT NOON WE HEADED FOR GREEN ISLAND AND HOOT OWL HOLLER.    THE WINDING
CLASS C GRAVEL ROAD, THROUGH THE DEEP
HOLLER, TOOK US TO JOE SCHLECHT'S  PARK
IN THE HOLLER, COMPLETE WITH A TWO STORY
REFURBISHED LOG CABIN, POND, PICNIC SHELTERS AND A TASTE OF RURAL  JACKSON COUNTY.    FOR 23 YEARS, JOE HAS  HOSTED A FREE (POT LUCK) PICNIC EVERY SEPTEMBER
FEATURING LOCAL AND AREA MUSICIANS.

HERE'S JOE.    AS YOU CAN SEE BELOW, A BIG
TURNOUT AGAIN THIS YEAR.
THAT'S THE LOB CABIN IN THE BACKGROUND TO THE LEFT OF THE U.S. FLAG.
JOE AND HOOT OWL HOLLER WAS FEATURED ON
FRAN RILEY'S TV SEGMENT ON KWQC THIS PAST SUMMER.

WHEN WE ARRIVED, PAUL SCHUMACHER AND
FOUR KIDS (FROM POTOSI) WERE ENTERTAINING.
THEY COULD HAVE THEIR OWN SHOW IN BRANSON.
REAL TALENT.   ALL SING.
NEXT UP (BELOW), MAGICIAN JOHN HOLLINGER OF CAMANCHE.    NOT A GREAT MAGICIAN BUT HE HAD A GOOD GIFT OF GAB.   I LIKED HIM.
LAST UP ON THE STAGE (FRONT PORCH OF THE
LOG CABIN) WAS BROOKE BYAM, RED HENTON'S GRANDDAUGHTER, SINGING WITH HER MOTHER JUDY.   THAT'S  MATHEW STILLMAN ON THE LEFT
AND ON THE RIGHT, BROOKE'S VERY GOOD FRIEND,  SONGWRITER/COUNTRY MUSICIAN MARQUES MOREL.    ALL FROM CLINTON.    RED
WAS SCHEDULED TO SING TOO, BUT I HAD TO
LEAVE BEFORE HIS TURN.
THANKS JOE, SON GEORGE AND WIVES (JOANN
AND CINDY) FOR ANOTHER FUN PICNIC.

WE LEFT AND TEN MINUTES LATER, AFTER GETTING BACK ON HIGHWAY 52, WE PULLED INTO THE UP-HILL DRIVEWAY TO GRAVERT'S LITTLE
APPLE KINGDOM, HOME OF A MILLION APPLES AND  GALLONS OF HOME MADE APPLE CIDER.
TWO WORKERS PREPARING APPLES TO BE USED
FOR MAKING CIDER.
BELOW, OUTSIDE AND INSIDE VIEWS OF THE APPLE STORE.
WE BOUGHT A GALLON OF CIDER AND A BAG OF
APPLES.   CAN'T WAIT TO TASTE.
ABOVE, DIANE GRAVERT, OWNER-PARTNER WITH
HER DAUGHTER LAURA.    DIDN'T GET TO MEET LAURA, BUT DID HER HUSBAND PHIL LARABEE
BELOW.
PHIL (VICE PRESIDENT OF CITIZENS STATE BANK) AND LAURA LIVE IN MONTICELLO AND DURING THIS BUSY SEASON, COME OUT AND HELP EVERY WEEKEND.   NOW UNTIL MID-OCTOBER, GRAVERT'S
IS OPEN EVERY DAY OF  THE WEEK.   LOCATED
JUST BEFORE YOU GET TO SABULA ON HIGHWAY 52 SIX MILES NORTH OF HIGHWAY 64.   LOOK FOR
THE SIGN.

AFTER LEAVING GREEN ISLAND, BACK TO MAQUOKETA TO THE DOWNTOWN GREEN SPACE
TO TAKE IN THE ROCK THE PARK MUSIC EVENT.
NICE TURN OUT....

ABOVE, THE MICHAEL REED BAND, ONE OF 3
CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC BANDS ON HAND TODAY.
THE TANGLED BLUE BAND I  MISSED SEEING.
BELOW, CHRISTIAN MUSIC RECORDING ARTIST
MITCH McVICKER, THIRD ON THE PROGRAM
WHICH ENDED AT 6 P.M.
A FOOD STAND, PICNIC TABLES AND GREAT
MUSIC AND WEATHER MADE FOR A VERY SUCCESSFUL "ROCK THE PARK".

WE GOT HOME AT 6 TO FIND OUT MY PACKERS
AND ST. LOUIS CARDINALS BOTH WON TODAY.

HOPEFULLY, TO END THE NIGHT, MISS IOWA WILL
BE THE NEXT MISS AMERICA.

GOOD DAY IN JACKSON COUNTY AND MAQUOKETA.

NOW LOOKING FORWARD TO A NICE-WARM-WEATHER WEEK AHEAD.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK.
