JACKSON COUNTY VETERANS AFFAIRS
THERE ARE JUST UNDER 1800 VETERANS IN JACKSON COUNTY. NO WONDER WE HAVE A JACKSON COUNTY VETERANS OF AFFAIRS OFFICE AT THE COURTHOUSE THAT SERVES VETERANS.
TERRY CREEGAN HAS RUN THE OFFICE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS ALONE
AND THIS SPRING, HE HIRED DEBBIE SCHROEDER TO BE HIS ASSISTANT.
DURING THOSE YEARS, THE OFFICE HAS CONTINUED TO GROW SIGNIFICANTLY. TERRY SAID AT THE PRESENT TIME, HE IS SEEING MORE
THAN 2 TIMES THE NUMBER OF CLIENTS THAT HE DID IN JUNE 2013.
AND THIS HAS HELPED THE OFFICE TO ACCOUNT FOR OVER $9 MILLION
IN VA EXPENDITURES OF WHICH ALMOST $4.5 MILLION WAS DIRECT PAYMENTS TO VETERANS OF JACKSON COUNTY.
TERRY SAID DEBBIE WAS HIRED DUE TO HE GENEROSITY AND FORESIGHT OF THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERISORS AND WITH SUPPORT FROM THE VETERANS BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS. DEBBIE WILL DO EVERYTHING NEEDED TO HELP VETERANS, INCLUDING FILING CLAIMS, DEALING WITH VETERANS PENSIONS, MEDICAL CARE AND VA HOME LOANS. ALSO STATE BENEFITS SUCH AS VETERANS DESIGNATIONS ON THEIR
DRIVER'S LICENSE, GRANTS FOR HOME LOANS, VETERANS DISCOUNTS
ON PROPERTY TAXES AND 100% DISABILITY DISCOUNTS.
DEBBIE LIVES IN BELLEVUE AND IS MARRIED TO MIKE SCHROEDER (HE WORKS FOR JIM SCHROEDER CONSTRUCTION) AND THEY HAVE
A BABY DAUGHER EMMA, WHO WILL BE 1 IN JULY. HER PARENTS ARE KENNY AND JEAN KILBURG OF BELLELVUE AND SHE WAS RAISED IN BELLEVUE AND GRADUATED AT BELLEVUE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE JOINED THE NAVY IN 2002 AND SERVED FOR 5 YEARS. HER HOME STATION WAS AT PUGET SOUND, WASHINGTON AND SHE WAS ATTACHED TO AN ELETRONIC ATTACK SQUADRON. SHE WAS STATIONED FOR A TIME
AT AL ASAD IRAQ. TERRY SAID HIS OFFICE IS IN THE COURTHOUSE BASEMENT BUT PLANS ARE TO MOVE INTO TWO MAIN FLOOR OFFICES THIS SUMMER. SINCE THE PENROSE ANNEX WAS OPENED, THERE ARE NOW PLANS TO ARRANGE SOME OFFICE MOVES AT THE MAIN COURT HOUSE. UPSTAIRS, THE VA OFFICES WILL THEN BE MORE VISABLE.
AND TERRY SAYS THAT SOMETIME IN AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER THEY WILL MAKE A PRESENCE IN BELLEVUE, THE SAME DAY EACH MONTH AS THE DRIVER'S LICENSE OFFICE IS THERE. THE BELLEVUE AMERICAN LEGION HAS OFFERED SPACE TO ASSIST CLIENTS. THIS WOULD BE A BIG BENIFIT
IN THE WINTER. THE MAQUOKETA VETERAN'S AFFAIRS OFFICE IN MAQUOKETA IS CURRENTLY OPEN WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, O83Ohrs TO 1630hrs AND FRIDAY UNTIL NOON ONLY. THE PHONE NUMBER IS 1-563-652-0070. IF HAVE A VETERAN IN YOUR FAMILY, OR NEIGHBORHOOD, OR A VETERAN FREIND, TELL HIM OR HER TO CHECK THIS DAILY REPORT THIS WEEK AND LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR LOCALL COUNTY VETS OFFICE.
