TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

IT WAS NICE AND WARM TODAY!   85 DEGREES!
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR KMAQ AREA UNTIL 11 TONIGHT.
WARMER AND MOSTLY DRY WEATHER THROUGH THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

THE ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM WILL BE HELD MONDAY AT THE
MAQUOKETA MIDDLE SCHOOL, STARTING AT 10:30.    THE  ADDRESS WILL BE
BY CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT TERRY CREEGAN, U.S. AIRFORCE, RETIRED.
THE "SALUTE TO THE NATION'S DEAD" WILL BE AT MT. HOPE CEMETERY
AFTER THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM.    THE MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM
WILL BE CONDUCTED BY BOTH THE MAQUOKETA VFW AND LEGION
AND EVERYONE IS INVITED AT BOTH THE SCHOOL AND THE CEMETERY AFTER.    THERE WILL BE A FLAG-BURNING CEREMONY AFTER.

THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, THE LEGION AND VFW WILL PUT UP AROUND 375 FLAGS AT BOTH CEMETERIES TO CREATE THE AVENUE OF FLAGS.  THEY WILL NEED HELP TO PUT THEM UP STARTING AT 5 P.M.     CAN YOU HELP?
THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST WILL BE PLACING NEARLY  500 FLAGS AROUND THE CITY FOR THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.    HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS  HELP THEM DO THIS, 5 OR 6 HOLIDAYS A YEAR.

I'M SURE NO COMMUNITY OUR SIZE IN IOWA WILL HAVE MORE FLAGS FLYING THIS WEEKEND THAN MAQUOKETA.

    TAKE YOUR DONATED ITEMS TO FAIRGROUNDS

THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MONTHLY NOON LUNCH TODAY AT MICHEL'S HALL WAS ATTENDED BY ABOUT 40 WHO HEARD ST. REP. BRIAN MOORE AND
ST. SENATOR TOD BOWMAN GIVE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE RECENTLY COMPLETED LEGISLATIVE SESSION IN DES MOINES.   BOTH AGEED THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THE LACK OF ACTION ON A GAS TAX
INCREASE TO  REPAIR IOWA'S STREETS, HIGHWAYS AND BRIDGES.
BOTH BELIEVE IT WILL BE ONE OF THE FIRST ITEMS ON THE AGENDA NEXT
JANUARY.

TODAY WAS THE OPENING DAY OF THE MAQUOKETA FARMER'S MARKET
AT THE OHNWARD PARKING LOT ON EAST PLATT STREET.    IT WILL BE
EVERY TUESDAY (4 TO 7 P.M.) UNTIL OCTOBER.   EVERY EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE TO MAKE IT BIGGER AND BETTER THIS YEAR.   CAN'T YOU TASTE THOSE FRESH BEANS AND PEAS.     ETC. ETC.

THE MAQUOKETA YMCA (THANKS TO CONTRIBUTORS) WILL BE OFFERING
FREE SWIM LESSONS TO 100 CHILDREN IN GRADES K-5.    EIGHT LESSONS AND A COMPLIMENTARY SHIRT TO RECOGNIZE THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENT.

BOB MILLER CALLED ME TODAY FROM HIS HOME IN HOT SPRINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA.  HE CHECKS THIS DAILY REGULARLY.    HIS DAD WAS TED MILLER IN WYOMING, IOWA WHO HAD A SAWMILL THERE FOR MANY YEARS.   BOB  HAS LIVED IN SD FOR ABOUT 7 YEARS.    HE HAS A PHOTO OR TWO OF THE GO-CART TRACK THAT WAS IN OPERATION A SHORT TIME AROUND 1960 NEAR THE MAQUOKETA AIRPORT.    HE WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION
AND RECOLLECTIONS AND MORE PHOTOS.    CALL HIM AT 605-890-2638.

THE H & R BLOCK FRANCHISEE OFFICE IN MAQUOKETA WILL BE GETTING A NEW HOME IN THE NEAR FUTURE.    DAVID RICHARDS, ENROLLED AGENT OF H & R BLOCK,  HAS PURCHASED THE FORMER "HITCHIN' POST" BUILDING
ON SOUTH OLIVE AND AFTER HE AND HIS WIFE JOLYNN DO SOME MAJOR
REMODELING, WILL MOVE IN THIS SUMMER.  MEANWHILE, THEY WILL
CONTINUE IN THEIR PRESENT BUILDING NEXT TO THE THEATRE.
RICHARDS ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT HE WILL BE ADDING HIS "DAVID RICHARDS INSURANCE" BUSINESS AT THE NEW LOCATION.

OVER 250 WATCHED "GOD'S NOT DEAD" YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND LAST NIGHT AT THE THEATRE.
WE WILL BE SHOWING IT TWO MORE TIMES ON MONDAY,  JUNE 2ND!

THE NEW COMEDY "BLENDED" STARRING ADAM SANDLER AND DREW BARRYMORE STARTS FRIDAY NIGHT DOWNTOWN AND AT THE DRIVE-IN.

GIRL'S GOLF LAST  NIGHT....PLEASANT VALLEY 173 AND CLINTON AND
MAQUOKETA TIED AT 225 , AT HIDDEN HILLS GOLF COURSE.    ALLISON
VANDEMORE HAD THE CARDINAL'S BEST SCORE, A 44.

ROSES ARE RED
THE GRASS IS GREEN
EVERYWHERE IN TOWN
MAQUOKETA LOOKS SUPREME.
