BURNETT-THEIL FORD HAS BEEN SOLD. THE NEW OWNERS TOOK OVER THIS WEEK. THEY ARE BROTHERS DOUG AND MATT WARTHAN OF DUBUQUE. THE BUSINESS WILL BE CALLED WARTHAN BROTHERS MAQUOKETA FORD. THEY OWN DUBUQUE AUTO PLAZA ON CENTURY
DRIVE, WHERE THEY SELL NISSAN, HUNDAI AND BMW NEW VEHICLES.
BURNETT-THIEL FORD IS 30 YEARS OLD BUT PRIOR TO THAT, LOUIE
AND RENALDA BURNETT (RON'S PARENTS) PURCHASED THE FRANCHISE FOR LOST NATION IN 1949. RON GREW UP IN THE BUSINESS WITH HIS DAD
AND BOB THIEL JOINED THE SALES STAFF IN 1971 AND IT WAS IN 1976 THAT RON AND BOB BOUGHT THE BUSINESS FROM LOUIE. THE BUSINESS
WAS MOVED TO MAQUOKETA IN THE EARLY 80'S. THE WORKFORCE WILL
CONTINUE ON WITH NEW OWNERS AND RON AND BOB WILL ALSO WORK
IN SALES FOR THEM. MATT WARTHAN AND HIS WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN WILL MOVE TO MAQUOKETA.
THE JACKSON SOIL LAND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS HAVE CHOSEN THEIR 2014 CONSERVATION SCHOLARLSHIP
AWARD WINNER. THE RECIPIENT IS MARISSA TILL, DAUGHTER OF
ALLAN AND KAREN TILL, AND A SENIOR AT MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE PLANS TO ATTEND IOWA STATE THIS FALL. SHE RECEIVED A $250 AWARD.
JUDY COX, 77, OF THOMSON, ILLINOIS, DIED WEDNESDAY. HER FUNERAL
IS TOMORROW. SURVIVORS INCLUDE A BROTHER, STEVE WHITMORE OF
MAQUOKETA.
