MONDAY DAILY REPORT

THIS WEEKEND, IN THE 50'S.

THE FAIRBOARD HAS ANNOUNCED THAT J.C. ENGEL WILL BE THE GRAND
MARSHALL OF THE JULY 2014 JACKSON COUNTY FAIR PARADE.
J.C. IS A LONGTIME FARMER, FORMER COUNTY SUPERVISOR AND HE AND
HIS FAMILY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE FAIR FOR MANY YEARS.
J.C. AND HIS GRANDCHILDREN WILL BE RIDING AT THE BEGINNING OF
THE PARADE ON JULY 23RD.     THE FAIR FAMILY ALSO ANNOUNCED TODAY ON THE KMAQ "JUST TALK" SHOW BY MANAGER LANNY SIMPSON IS
THE RICHARD AND ELAINE HUENEKE FAMILY OF ST. DONATUS.  THE FAMILY OF 5 CHILDREN AND NUMEROUS GRANDCHILDREN HAS BEEN ACTIVE IN THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR FOR AT LEAST 33 YEARS.    THEY WILL BE
HONORED ON SUNDAY, JULY 20TH,  PRIOR TO THE FAIR.

THIS WEEKEND, MATT OSTERHAUS OF MAQUOKETA BECOMES PRESIDENT
OF THE AMERICAN PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION.   THEIR NATIONAL CONVENTION IS MARCH 28TH THRU THE 31ST. IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA.
MATT WILL GIVE HIS ADDRESS TO THE MEMBERS THIS SUNDAY MORNING WITH AN ESTIMATED 4,000 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE.     HE WILL OFFICIALLY BE SWORN-IN MONDAY AFTERNOON.    HE WILL SERVE AS PRESIDENT ONE YEAR AND THEN WILL REMAIN ON THE BOARD FOR AN ADDITIONAL YEAR AS
IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT.    THIRTY-THREE MEMBERS OF THE OSTERHAUS FAMILY WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE DURING THE WEEKEND AND
FOUR OSTERHAUS PHARMACY PHARMACISTS WILL ALSO BE AT THE
CONVENTION.    MATT RECEIVED HIS DEGREE IN 1980 FROM THE IOWA COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AT IOWA CITY.      HIS WIFE MARILYN ALSO
BECAME A PHARMACIST IN 1980 AND BOTH OWN AND OPERATE OSTERHAUS PHARMACY IN MAQUOKETA.     THEY HAVE FOUR CHILDREN AND THREE GRANDCHILDREN.     HIS DAD, BOB, IS A PAST PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCATION AND WITH HIS WIFE ANN,  STILL LIVES IN MAQUOKETA.    BOB IS RETIRED AND DID SO AFTER SEVERAL TERMS AS AN IOWA STATE
REPRESENTATIVE.

A MAQUOKETA WOMAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH A HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT ON FEBRUARY 19TH.    MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER KEENAN MEINECKE
CHARGED LORI FEY, AGE 50, WITH LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT AND STRIKING AN UNATTENDED VEHICLE.      POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA SAID THE REASON FOR THE DELAY IN CHARGES IS THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION IN THE ACCIDENT AND POLICE WERE NOT GETTING COOPERATION FROM FEY.   POLICE SAY SHE WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON
COUNTRY CLUB DRIVE, CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND HIT THE PARKED
VEHICLE REGISTERED TO DAVID NEUMAN.      THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGE ACCORDING TO THE REPORT, DISABLING DAMAGE.    FEY CONTINUED ON TO HER HOME AND DID NOT REPORT THE ACCIDENT OR CONTACT THE NEUMANS.

ON THE POLICE BLOTTER, JEFF KENNEDY SAID SOMEONE WENT THROUGH HIS LOCKER AT THE YMCA IN MAQUOKETA AND TWO $50 BILLS WERE TAKEN.

"DANCING WITH THE CARDS" WAS HELD SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER, SPONSORED BY THE MAQUOKETA ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB.    THERE WAS A VERY GOOD CROWD TO SEE THE SHOW FEATURING
SEVEN DANCING COUPLES.   THIRD PLACE WENT TO JAROD MANNING AND KADEE DULL....2ND PLACE TO DEONNA MILLER AND DEREK KRUSER AND 1ST PLACE TO THE FATHER-DAUGHTER TEAM OF KARY AND ASHLEY BECKER.
THE PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO SCOTT WIRTH AND
TESS NISSEN.    LAURIE STEINES WAS AGAIN CHAIRPERSON AND SAYS THE BOOSTER CLUB MAY NET JUST OVER $3,000 FROM THE EVENT.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT AT 5.

SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT AT 6, TO TALK ABOUT THE
DOWNTOWN PROJECT.

EVERYONE'S TALKING ABOUT THE LAST-SECOND WIN LAST NIGHT BY
THE IOWA STATE CYCLONES IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT.    THE CYCLONES WILL PLAY IN THE SWEET SIXTEEN FRIDAY NIGHT.

ANOTHER INDICATION OF JUST HOW  BAD THIS PAST WINTER WEATHER
WAS.   I HAVE MY SECOND "COLD"....A FIRST AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER.

A NEW STORE HAS OPENED IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA, NEXT TO
BOB'S BARBER SHOP ACROSS FROM THE THEATRE.   I'LL GET PHOTOS
AND A STORY LATER THIS WEEK.

THE #1 MOVIE THIS PAST WEEKEND IN THE USA WAS "DIVERGENT".
DID WELL ALSO HERE IN MAQUOKETA.    WE SAW IT...AND LIKED IT!
