MANY MINOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS.
JUST BEFORE 7 THIS MORNING, A CAR SLID INTO THE DITCH NORTH OF
ANDREW. NO ONE HURT.
LAST NIGHT, A CAR SLID INTO A GAS METER AT THE TIMBER CITY TRAILER COURT AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED, ALONG WITH WORKERS
FROM BLACK RIVER HILLS ENERGY. HOWEVER, NO GAS LEAK AND
NO ONE HURT.
ALSO LAST NIGHT, A CAR SLID IN THE DITCH ON HIGHWAY 61 AND NO ONE
HURT.
ALSO LAST NIGHT, A CAR WENT INTO THE DITCH SOUTHWEST OF BELLEVUE.
NOBODY HURT.
AT 5:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, A PICKUP WENT INTO THE DITCH NEAR THE CORNER OF 61 AND 63RD. THE DRIVER WAS JOSEPH WALKER, AGE 22,
OF RURAL MAQUOKETA. HE LOST CONTROL ON THE ICE AND ROLLED THE
VEHICLE WITH $5,000 DAMAGE DONE. NO INJURIES.
ANOTHER ACCIDENT AT 5 P.M. SUNDAY ON 61 SENT THE DRIVER TO THE HOSPITAL FOR MINOR INJURIES. NAME NOT GIVEN ON REPORT.
AT 3 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, A CAR WENT INTO THE DITCH SOUTH OF
BELLEVUE...NO ONE HURT.
DURING THE NOON HOUR SUNDAY, AT S. JONES AND W. PLATT, SUSAN KUHLMAN OF RURAL MAQUOKETA, AGE 57, WAS NORTHBOUND ON JONES, STOPPED AT THE INTERSECTION AND A DUBUQUE CAR WAS ALSO NORTHBOUND AND BECAUSE OF SLIPPERY CONDITIONS, WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND STRUCK THE REAR OF KUHLMAN'S CAR. THE DUBUQUE MAN WAS CHARGED. NO INJURIES. EACH CAR RECEIVED ABOUT $2,000 IN DAMAGES.
I HEARD THIS MORNING THAT THE 2ND KWIK STAR CONVENIENCE STORE
ON SOUTH MAIN (FORMERLY TIMBER CITY TRAVEL PLAZA TRUCK STOP) WILL OPEN THIS THURSDAY. IT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REDONE, INSIDE AND
OUTSIDE.
MAQUOKETA POLICE HAVE FILED CHARGES AGAINST TODD CLARK, AGE 39, OF MAQUOKETA, IN CONNECTION WITH A TWO YEAR OLD CASE. HE WAS CHARGED WITH COMMITTING WILLFUL INJURY RESULTING IN SERIOUS
INJURY. THE POLICE REPORT INDICATED CLARK USED A KNIFE WHEN HE ATTACKED RICHARD ALLEN ON JANUARY 13TH, 2011. ALLEN'S NECK AND CHEEK WERE CUT AND HE WAS TREATED AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS. CLARK WILL HAVE A COURT APPOINTED ATTORNEY AND WAS RELEASED ON $10,000 UNSECURED BOND.
SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT.
CHARLES BURKE, 79, OF DEWITT DIED THURSDAY AT TRINITY HOSPITAL
ROCK ISLAND THE FUNERAL WILL BE FRIDAY AT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE, FOUR CHILDREN, 13 GRANDCHILDREN
AND 2 SISTERS, INCLUDING KAREN STEFFEN OF MAQUOKETA.
VOLUNTEERS ARE RINGING THE BELL DAILY IN MAQUOKETA FOR THE SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS EFFORT. AT THE FAREWAY STORE
VOLUNTEERS CAN RING INSIDE THE ENTRY WAY BUT WAL MART DOES NOT ALLOW FUND RAISING INSIDE THE STORE, SO THIS YEAR, SOMEONE
BUILDT THIS LITTLE HOUSE. IT LOOKS NICE AND REALLY HELPS.
