SIDEWALK SUPERINTENDANTS HAVE ONE MORE DAY TO WATCH
THE NEW KWIK STAR CONVENIENCE STORE GET READY TO OPEN.
IT WILL OPEN AT 5 A.M. THURSDAY.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON, BOB OSTERHAUS, RETIRED PHARMACIST IN
MAQUOKETA AND FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE WAS INDUCTED INTO
THE JACKSON COUNTY DEMOCRATS HALL OF FAME.
IT HAPPENED DURING THE DEMOCRATS ANNUAL STEAK FRY AT THE KALMES RESTAURANT IN ST. DONATUS.     STATE SENATOR TOD BOWMAN OF
MAQUOKETA PRESENTED BOB WITH THE PLAQUE.     JIM RALSTON OF
DELMAR WAS ALSO INDUCTED FOR HIS HARD WORK FOR THE DEMOCRATIC
PARTY OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS.    IT WAS THE SECOND YEAR FOR THE
HALL OF FAME.   INDUCTED LAST YEAR, THE LATE BOB LYONS OF MAQUOKETA, LONGTIME JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF AND NADINE WOSOBA
OF MAQUOKETA, WHO HAS (AND STILL DOES) WORK DELIGENTLY FOR THE PARTY.

JACKSON COUNTY ENGINEER CLARK SCHLOZ SAID THE IDOT PLANS TO
WORK ON PLATT STREET NEXT WEEK.   THEY WILL BE PATCHING THE STREET FROM MAIN TO HIGHWAY 61.    HE SAID THE IDOT WILL NOT BE
RESURFACING THE ROAD, BUT PUTTING IN ASPHALT PATCHES.
DR. PETE ATIENZA, RETIRED SURGEON, WAS THE PARADE MARSHALL
FRIDAY FOR THE HOMECOMING PARADE.   DRESSED AS ELVIS BECAUSE
HE DOES A GOOD IMPRESSION OF THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL.
THE CARDINALS BEAT MARION!

DURING A MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETING WORK SESSION LAST  NIGHT, LOTS OF DISCUSSION ON AN AQUATICS OUTDOOR POOL AT AN ESTIMATED
COST OF $2 MILLION.     THERE MAY BE A $5,000 FEASIBILITY STUDY DONE
TO BE PAID FOR BY THE CITY AND TO DETERMINE IF THERE WILL BE
CITIZEN SUPPORT WITH DONATIONS.     THE PROPOSED POOL WOULD GO NEXT TO THE YMCA, WITH MAYBE AN ADDITION TO THE Y AT THE SAME TIME.
THERE WILL BE LOTS OF YES AND NO'S ON  THESE PROPOSALS FOR THE YMCA.

A PIZZA,  CAKE AND ICE CREAM LUNCH FOR JIMMY SAUNDERS, WHO
STARTED WORKING AS A KMAQ ANNOUNCER 25 YEARS AGO TODAY.
ONLY DOTTIE BAYLES (RETIRED), EARL SAUNDERS (RETIRED), AND LEIGHTON HEPKER HAVE BEEN A KMAQ EMPLOYEE 25 OR MORE YEARS IN KMAQ'S 55-YEAR HISTORY.
GOOD CAKE ABOVE, BUT WE NO LONGER PLAY RECORDS.    MUSIC
IS NOW ON HARD DRIVES AND CD'S.

HALLOWEEN DISPLAYS ARE GOING UP AROUND TOWN.

SUNDAY IS THE ANNUAL CROP WALK IN MAQUOKETA, SPONSORED BY
COMMUNITY CHURCHES.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALLL TONIGHT IN MAQUOKETA.

4:07 P.M. THURSDAY!    THE TIME FOR THE FIRST PITCH IN THE NATIONAL
LEAGUE PLAYOFF BEST OF SERIES, STARTING AT ST. LOUIS.   IT WILL BE THE CARDINALS AGAINST THE THE WINNER OF TONIGHT'S GAME BETWEEN THE PIRATES AND THE REDS.

JEFF ALLEN WAS A LITTLE BOY IN JACKSON COUNTY WHEN THE 61 DRIVE-IN
WAS BUILDT IN 1950 AND OPENED IN AUGUST THAT YEAR.    IT WAS
BUILDT BY HIS PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. WALT ALLEN.   THEY OWNED IT
FOR 10 YEARS.    HE HAS FOND MEMORIES OF IT.    JEFF READS THIS
DAILY REPORT AND HAS BEEN A LONGTIME RESIDENT OF AUSTIN.   HIS
SISTER SIEGRED LIVES IN CALIFORNIA.   THANKS FOR THE LETTER

UPDATE ON JERRE STEAD

JERRE STEAD WAS BORN IN MAQUOKETA IN 1943 AND GRADUATED FROM
MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL IN 1960.     HIS WIFE MARY JOY WAS BORN
IN 1942 AND WAS A 1961 GRADUATE OF MHS.    JERRE'S DAD, VICTOR, WAS
AN INSURANCE MAN IN MAQUOKETA.      MARY'S DAD, GEORGE KLOPPENBERG, WORKED FOR CLINTON ENGINES.     JERRE HAS DONE VERY WELL, AS A CEO FOR A FEW FIRMS.   HE HAS GIVEN MILLIONS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA AND THOUSANDS TO MAQUOKETA, MOST RECENTLY TO THE YMCA.     THEY ARE NOW LIVING IN COLORADO AND THE BELOW STORY APPEARED IN THE SEPTEMBER 20TH EDITION OF THE DENVER POST.
