THE 7TH GRADERS FROM MAQUOKETA MIDDLE SCHOOL HAD THEIR ANNUAL
PICNIC AT LAKEHURST TODAY. RED HENTON (PARTICIPATED SO THEY HAD
A PA SYSTEM) AND CALLED ME AND SUGGESTED I COME OUT TO TAKE A FEW
PICTURES. THEY HAD A HOTDOG LUNCH, DID SOME GAMES, FOUND OUT
HOW THE DAM WORKS AND LEARNED HOW GENERATORS MAKE ELECTRICTY,
EVEN PEDALING A BIKE THAT ACTUALLY POWERS A FLAT-SCREEN TV.
CLICK-ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE THEM.
THE KIDS WERE "HOSTED" BY THE MANAGERS OF THE DAM (WHO LIVE IN THE HOUSE NEXT TO IT) PETE AND JUDY SCHULTZ. THE TRIP WAS
ARRANGED BY JESSICA HINGTGEN, SCIENCE TEACHER AT THE MIDDLE
SCHOOL.
THE DAM IS OWNED BY "RENEWABLE WORLD ENERGIES" WITH HEADQUARTERS AT NESHKORO, WISCONSIN. HERE, WITH THE DAM IN THE BACKGROUND, IS WILLIAM D. HARRIS THE PRESIDENT/CEO.
THE COMPANY HAS 3 DAMS IN IOWA, INCLUDING THE ONE AT ANAMOSA, AND
ABOUT 15 IN WISCONSIN, PLUS A FEW OTHERS.....I THINK HE SAID THEY
HAVE 25 TOTAL. ALL 25 GENERATE ELECTRICITY (AT A LOW COST) AND
KEEP US LESS DEPENDENT ON OIL. HE COMES DOWN HERE SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO SPEAK TO YOUR CLUB OR
ORGANIZATION. THE WEB SITE IS: www.renewableworldenergy.com
THE STUDENTS (AND ADULTS TOO) WERE LEARNING AND HAVING FUN.
I THINK RED HAD 4 HOTDOGS.
