WINDY AND CLOUDY THIS MORNING....SUNNY THIS AFTERNOON AND
A HIGH OF 41.
THE OLD MAQUOKETA POOL WILL BE LEVELED BY THE END OF APRIL.
LAST NIGHT THE CITY COUNCIL AGREED TO ACCEPT THE LOW BID FROM ARDO
SCHMIDT TO TAKE DOWN THE BATHHOUSE, CONCRETE SIDEWALKS AND FILL
IN THE 1972 POOL. THE AREA WILL BE LEVELED TO ONE GRADE AND SEEDED
WITH GRASS.
NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE ON WHAT THE LAND WILL BE USED FOR.
IT COULD BE USED FOR PARKING DURING GOODENOW FIELD EVENTS, OR
COULD BE SOLD. THE PROPERTY EXTENDS FROM THE POOL AREA
TO ADJACENT ELIZA STREET TO THE SOUTH AND ALSO THERE IS A CONNECTION TO MAIN STREET (A LOT WHERE A HOME ONCE STOOD AND OWNED BY THE CITY) TO THE WEST.
THE FEDERAL AGENCY FANNIE MAE HAS BLINKED.
THE COUNTY SUPERVISORS HAVE FINIALLY HEARD FROM THE AGENCY THAT IT WILL CLEAN-UP THE FORMER WILLIE MORTENSEN PROPERTY OFF THE CAVES
ROAD. IT WAS PURCHASED BY FANNIE MAE LAST YEAR IN A SHERIFF'S SALE AND SINCE THEN, FANNIE MAE HAS BEEN IN VIOLATION OF THE COUNTY'S NUISANCE ORDINACE.
NUMEROUS NOTICES WERE SENT AND FANNIE MAE UNTIL THIS WEEK, DID NOT RESPOND. NOW THEY SAY THEY WILL CLEAN-UP THE PROPERTY AND POSSIBLY
DEED IT TO NEIGHBORS. BUT, THE AGENCY WANTS TO COUNTY TO ELIMINATE
THE FINES THAT TO DATE TOTAL MORE THAN $68,000.
IT SOUNDS LIKE LOTS OF ARRANGMENTS NEED TO BE MADE AND I WILL KEEP
YOU POSTED ON ANY NEW DEVELOPMENTS.
TOMORROW IS ASH WEDNESDAY, AND THE START OF LENT.
