SUNNY THIS MORNING AND CLOUDY THIS AFTERNOON...HIGH 47.
SUNNY AND 59 TOMORROW.
FRIDAY ALSO LOOKING GOOD FOR "BLACK FRIDAY" SHOPPERS.

NOTICED A SIGN IN THEIR WINDOW THAT MAQUOKETA'S "GOODWILL
STORE" IS ALSO HAVING BIG, BLACK FRIDAY SALE. SAVINGS UP TO 50%.
I DON'T HEAR MUCH ABOUT THAT STORE. IT IS BIG, VERY NICE, AND I HOPE DOING WELL. THEY DO NO ADVERTISING SO I'M SURE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE
IN THIS AREA THAT STILL DO NOT KNOW IT IS HERE. SPREAD THE
WORD. IT IS LOCATED IN THE FORMER FAREWAY STORE BUILDING, ACROSS
FROM MY THEATRE. THIS STORE SHOULD, AND WILL, DRAW MANY PEOPLE
TO MAQUOKETA FROM NOT ONLY JACKSON COUNTY, BUT JONES AND
CLINTON COUNTIES AND CARROLL COUNTY ACROSS THE RIVER TOO.

A SHORT PRESENTATION ON THE MAQUOKETA AMBULANCE SERVICE WAS
GIVEN LAST NIGHT DURING THE HOSPITAL BOARD MEETING.
PAULETTE HORNER, PARAMEDIC SPECIALIST WITH THE SERVICE, SAID
THEY HAVE 22 STAFF MEMBERS WHO COVER THE 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN
DAYS A WEEK. THERE ARE 3 AMBULANCES. THEY HAVE BETWEEN 1,200
AND 1,320 CALLS OR TRANSFERS EACH YEAR. SHE SAID ALL AMBULANCE
PERSONNEL WORK IN THE HOSPITAL DURING THEIR SHIFT IF THEY ARE NOT
ON CALL. THE AMBULANCES RECENTLY HAD GPS UNITS INSTALLED WHICH
HELPS THEM FIND THE LOCATION OF A CALLER.

NEW L-E-D STREET LIGHTS, BALLPARK LIGHTS, AND PARK LIGHTS WILL BE
INSTALLED AFTER THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA GETS THEIR STATE GRANT MONEY.
MONDAY NIGHT, THE COUNCIL APPROVED ACCEPTING A $229,655 GRANT FROM
THE STATE ENERGY PROGRAM THROUGH THE IOWA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
AUTHORITY. THE CITY WILL HAVE TO MATCH THE GRANT AND WILL
CHECK INTO A WPPI ZERO-INTEREST LOAN PROGRAM THEY OFFER. THERE
IS ALSO ANOTHER 1 PERCENT LOAN PROGRAM FROM THE STATE THAT
GOES UP TO 15 YEARS.

ROBERTS. THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED AND TO THE SPONSORS OF
THIS POPULAR ANNUAL EVENT BEFORE THANKSGIVING.

BRAD DEERY MOTORS ASKED THE SUPERVISORS THIS WEEK IF THEY
COULD STORE SOME VEHICLES AT THE COUNTY OWNED LARGE EMPTY
BUILDING IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARK. THEY WOULD STORE ABOUT 20 AND
MAINLY CONVERTIBLES, TO PROTECT THEM FROM SNOW AND ICE.
THE SUPERVISORS WERE RECEPTIVE BUT WILL CHECK ON SOME THINGS
FIRST, BEFORE MAKING A DECISION.
