BIG PILE OF CORN SOUTH OF TOWN! NEXT TO GOLD! THE LATEST FEDERAL CROP
FORECAST SAYS IOWA'S AVERAGE CORN YIELD IS EXPECTED TO RISE TO 171 BUSHELS PER ACRE THIS YEAR, COMPARED TO 165 IN 2010. NATIONALLY, THE U.S. CORN CROP IS EXPECTED TO AVERAGE 146 BUSHELS AN ACRE, DOWN 5 FROM LAST YEAR.
IOWA'S HARVEST IS EXPECTED TO BE 2.33 BILLION BUSHELS, COMPARED WITH MORE THAN 2.15 BILLION BUSHELS LAST YEAR. NOT ALL CORN IS HARVESTED IN IOWA.
NATIONALLY, THE TOTAL PRODUCTION THIS YEAR IS EXPECTED TO BE 12.3 BILLION BUSHELS, DOWN 1 PERCENT FROM LAST YEAR. SO, CORN PRICES SHOULD REMAIN
GOOD FOR THE NEXT YEAR.
PARTLY SUNNY AND COLD TODAY...HIGH AGAIN OF 39. BUT,
BACK UP INTO THE 50'S FOR THE NEXT 4 DAYS AT LEAST.
BIG STORY TODAY....TOM SCHUELLER....SMALL BUSINESS OWNER AND FORMER STATE
REPRESENTATIVE....ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT HE WILL RUN FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
IN THE NEW HOUSE DISTRICT 58. THE NEW DISTRICT INCLUDES ALL OF JACKSON
COUNTYK THE EASTERN PART OF JONES COUNTY, AND A SMALL PORTION OF DUBUQUE
COUNTY. THE INCOMBANT IN THAT HOUSE DISTRICT WILL BE REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE BRIAN MOORE OF ZWINGLE, WHO DEFEATED SCHUELLER IN A HOUSE
RACE LAST NOVEMBER. HE SERVED THREE TERMS AS STATE REPRESENTATIVE
IN DISTRICT 25. HE ALSO SERVED ON THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNICL FOR 11 YEARS.
TOM SCHUELLER AND HIS SONS ARE PARTNERS IN SCHUELLER AND SONS RECONSTRUTION
IN MAQUOKETA. HE AND HIS WIFE MELODIE HAVE 3 GROWN CHILDREN AND 8
GRANDCHILDREN, AND ALL LIVE IN MAQUOKETA.
THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA HAS NOT HEARD WHETHER IT WILL RECEIVE A STATE
GRANT TO REPLACE SOME STREET LIGHTS. THE GRANT APPLICATION WAS TO
REPLACE THE CURRENT WITH L-E-D BULBS. THE CITY HAS BEEN TESTING
TWO KINDS....THE L-E-D AND AN INDUCTION LIGHT WHICH IS LIKE A FLUORESCENT LIGHT. THE CHANGE WOULD BE TO SAVE ENERGY OF COURSE, BUT NEW ONES MAY
NOT BE AS BRIGHT.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.
