BIG MAQUOKETA STORY TODAY.....THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD WILL
BE MOVING FROM THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH TO THE FORMER ALDI'S
SUPER MARKET BUILDING ON WEST PLATT STREET. DAC, INC. BOUGHT THE
BUILDING AND OFFERED THE CUPBOARD USE OF ABOUT ONE-QUARTER OF THE
BUILDING. GARY EGGERS, WHO COORDINATES THE CUPBOARD FOR THE
MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION, SAID IT WILL BE 5 TO 6 MONTHS BEFORE THEY
MAKE THE MOVE AND THAT IT WILL BE A GOOD MOVE FOR THE PEOPLE WHO USE
THE CUPBOARD. HE SAID MANY USE "WALKERS" AND IT IS DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO GET UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS AT THE CHURCH. HE SAID THEY WILL HAVE
MORE ROOM AND DAC CLIENTS WHO WILL BE IN THE OTHER PART OF THE BUILDING WILL BE AVAILABLE TO HELP UNLOAD TRUCKS OR HELP EGGERS WITH OTHER
NEEDS. HE SAID HE BELIEVES THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY CUPBOARD STARTED IN 1979 AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN HOUSED AT THE METHODIST CHURCH.
TAXES WILL GO UP IN JACKSON COUNTY! THE SUPERVISORS WILL BE PROPOSING A 25-CENT INCREASE IN THE RURAL FUND AND 5-CENTS INCREASE FOR THE URBAN
COUNTY TAX RATE. THE PROPOSED TAX ASKING WILL BE $5.3 MILLION FOR NEXT YEAR. IN 2010 IT WAS LESS, AT NEARLY $5 MILLION.
ON THE POLICE BLOTTER.....ABBY BOLLINGER AT 717 SOUTH MAIN STREET SAID
YESTERDAY MORNING THAT SOMEONE PUT SALT IN HER GAS TANK.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.
