CLOUDY, BREEZY, WET DAY TODAY...HIGH 37.

DOTTIE BAYLES, WHO HAS BEEN A KMAQ SALES REP SINCE 1977, WENT TO
GEORGIA FOR THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TO CELEBRATE WITH HER
3 SISTERS AND THEIR HUSBANDS. DOTTIE TOLD ME BEFORE SHE WENT
THAT THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME THAT ALL SEVEN WILL BE TOGETHER FOR CHRISTMAS. ONE SISTER AND HUSBAND LIVE IN GEORGIA. THE OTHER SISTER LIVES IN NEW MEXICO AND THE OTHER IN COLORADO. DOTTIE FLEW DOWN. THE COLORADO COUPLE DROVE, PICKING UP THE NEW MEXICO COUPLE. DOTTIE FLEW BACK TO CHICAGO YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND THE OTHER FOUR LEFT ABOUT THE SAME TIME FOR NEW MEXICO BY CAR. ON THEIR WAY THROUGH TEXAS, THEIR CAR ON SLIPPERY PAVEMENT, WENT OFF THE ROAD AND OVER TURNED. KILLED INSTANTLY IN THE SINGLE CAR
ACCIDENT WAS DOTTIE'S NEW MEXICO SISTER AND HER COLORADO
BROTHER-IN-LAW. DOTTIE'S COLORADO SISTER IS IN SERIOUS CONDITION
WITH BROKEN NECK AND BACK AND DOTTIE'S NEW MEXICO BROTHER-IN-LAW
RECEIVED VERY BAD, BUT NOT LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. I'LL HAVE
AN UPDATE ON THE HOSPITALIZED NEXT WEEK. VERY SAD.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS PLAN TO DO SOME REMODELING AND UPGRADING AT THE COURTHOUSE IN MAQUOKETA,
NEXT YEAR . NEEDS: NEW STEPS ON THE NORTH SIDE.
SMOKE DETECTION AND AIR-CONDITIONED IN THE COMPUTER ROOM
OF THE AUDITOR'S OFFICE.
ALSO, NEW FANS AND SEATING IN THE COURT ROOM.

BECAUSE OF NO SNOW IN DECEMBER, THE JACKSON COUNTY SECONDARY
ROADS DEPARTMENT HAS SAVED A LOT OF MONEY. OVER 4 MONTHS
LAST YEAR, $600,000 WAS SPENT.
THIS YEAR, IN DECEMBER, $150,000 WAS SAVED BECAUSE CREWS HAVE BEEN
OUT ONCE AND HAVE HARDLY USED ANY MATERIAL. LAST DECEMBER,
THEY USED 40% OF THE MATERIAL ON COUNTRY ROADS IN DECEMBER.
LAST YEAR, JACKSON COUNTY RECEIVED 28 INCHES OF SNOW ALL
WINTER WITH AROUND 12 INCHES ON THE GROUND IN LATE DECEMBER.

IT HAS BEEN A NICE DECEMBER! HOMEOWNERS AND BUSINESS PLACES
ALSO HAVE SAVED MONEY ON FUEL AND SNOW REMOVAL.

BUT, THERE ARE LOOSERS WITH THIS KIND OF WEATHER....FUEL DEALERS,
SNOW SHOVELERS, THOSE WHO SELL SNOW REMOVAL EQUIPMENT,
CAR AND TRUCK BATTERIES, SKI RESORTS, SNOWMOBILE DEALERS,
AND MORE.

HAVE A SAFE AND FUN NEW YEAR'S EVE.
AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

TODAY, ON MY "DAILY REPORT".....SOMETHING YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO
SEE! THE ROOF OF KMAQ.
THIS IS A BRAND NEW ROOF INSTALLED BY CONNELL SUPPLY COMPANY IN
MAQUOKETA.
HERE YOU SEE THE OWNER OF CONNELL SUPPLY, CLAY ROMER, A FORMER
MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE AND ALSO THESE DAYS, ONE OF THE TOP
REFEREES OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL IN IOWA.
YES...JUST LIKE THE ROOF HE INSTALLED THIS SUMMER AT THE VOY THEATRE,
IT IS WHITE, PURE WHITE.
DOESN'T IT LOOK NICE?
IT IS A DURO-LAST ROOFING SYSTEM, A SUPERIOR ROOFING SYSTEM
KNOWN IN THE INDUSTRY AS THE WORLD'S BEST ROOF. THE SINGLE-PLY
REINFORCED TPO MEMBRANE MAKES THE ROOF SO GOOD, THERE IS A 15 YEAR NO-DOLLAR-LIMIT WARRANTY. AN INSPECTOR EVEN COMES FROM THE FACTORY TO INSPECT AFTER INSTALLATION! THE KMAQ ROOF PASSED THE
INSPECTION.
HERE AT KMAQ, WE ARE ALL HAPPY ABOUT OUR NEW ROOF! AND HAPPY PEOPLE SOUND GOOD ON THE RADIO.
JUST ANOTHER REASON TO KEEP YOUR DIAL SET, ALL THE TIME, TO KMAQ
IN MAQUOKETA, CELEBRATING YEAR NUMBER 54 IN 2012.
AND CONNELL SUPPLY HAS BEEN A REGULAR ADVERTISER SINCE YEAR ONE.
THANKS CLAY FOR ADVERTISING ON KMAQ AND SELLING THE BEST ROOFS!

THAT A GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM FOR BRIGG'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COULD
COST ABOUT $1.8 MILLION. THE BOARD POSTPONED A DECISION TO HIRE
AN ENGINEERING FIRM TO DESIGN A SYSTEM. WHETHER THE IDEA WILL
GO FORWARD WILL DEPEND ON SOIL BORINGS TO SEE IF AN UNDERGROUND
SYSTEM IS WORKABLE IN THE AREA OF BRIGG'S SCHOOL. THREE TEST BORINGS AT A COST OF $2,950 WILL BE DONE NEXT WEEK. THEN A MEETING
WILL BE HELD SOON AFTER TO MAKE A FINAL DECISION ON THE ENERGY SAVING PROJECT. AND IF THEY DECIDE TO GO AHEAD, THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE WORK COMPLETED BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS NEXT YEAR.

K MOTORSPORTS, MAQUOKETA, OWNER COLE KROMMINGA OF MONTICELLO, HAS PURCHASED THE OLD THEISEN'S STORE ON EAST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA AND PLANS TO MOVE HIS BUSINESS FROM JUST OFF SOUTH MAIN STREET TO THE LARGER BUILDING THAT HAS BEEN VACANT FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

FS, IS NOW FOR SALE. THEY WILL HAVE FOUR TIMES THE SPACE.
KROMMINGA SAID THEY WILLL CONTINUE TO SELL AND REPAIR ATV'S...
FOUR WHEELERS...DIRT BIKES, ETC. THEY ARE THE DEALER FOR ARTIC
CAT, KAWASAKI, SUZUKI AND POLARIS. HE SAID EMPLOYEES ARE RE-DOING
THE FLOOR OF THE FORMER THEISEN'S BUILDING AND OTHER REMODELLING

SAW THE HOLIDAY ICE SHOW WEARING PARKAS TO KEEP US WARM IN THE 9-DEGREE BUILDING AT THE OPYRLAND (75 ARTISTS FROM CHINA WERE FLOWN TO OPRYLAND TO CARVE THE DISNEY CHARACTERS IN A PERIOD OF 3-MONTHS). CRUISED THE CUMBERLAND RIVER THAT FLOODED NASHVILLE A YEAR AGO AND CAUSED BILLIONS OF DOLLARS DAMAGE (STILL WORKING THE THE OPRY MALL WHICH RE-OPENS IN APRIL). SAW THE LOUISE MANDREL CHRISTMAS SHOW AND ON BROADWAYS STREET, VISITED MANY OF THE HUNDRED OR SO BARS (MOST WITH "LIVE" MUSIC ) AND HAD A BEER AND SANDWICH AT THE "WILDHORSE", NASHVILLE'S MOST FAMOUS BAR AND RESTAURANT. NIGHTLIFE ON MUSIC ROW IS BUMPER-TO-BUMPER PEOPLE EVERY NIGHT, ALL HAVING A GREAT TIME IN THE MUSIC CAPITOL OF THE WORLD. NASHVILLE IS A FUN, MUSICAL PLACE.
THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN IN A VERY POPULAR, SMALL ICE-CREAM STORE DOWNTOWN. STOPPED THERE AFTER DINNER FOR A CONE AND RAN INTO TWO FELLOW KMAQ TRAVELERS, JANET TREKELL AND ARLENE McCUTCHEON, BOTH

HE WAS PAYING, JANET SAID...."I'LL HOLD THOSE FOR YOU WHILE YOU PAY
FOR THEM". AND AS THE COUPLE LEFT, THEY HEARD SOME OTHER COMMENTS

FLOYD CRAMER, DIED DECEMBER 31, 1997 AT THE AGE OF 64. "GOOGLE"
HIM FOR HIS LIFE AS A FAMOUS, BUSY, NASHVILLE MUSICIAN. ON
THE KMAQ-TRAVEL TRIP TO NASHVILLE LAST WEEK, WE TOOK A GREAT
TOUR OF "STUDIO B" ON MUSIC ROW, AND THIS PIANO WAS THE ONE USED TO
RECORD FLOYD'S MEGA HIT "LAST DATE" IN 1960. COULD NOT RESIST SITTING
AT IT FOR THIS PHOTO. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE PLAYED
THAT SONG ON KMAQ. NASHVILLE WAS GREAT....YOU HAVE TO VISIT
IT SOMETIME AND VISIT DOWNTOWN (WITH ALL THE BARS AND RESTAURANTS-
MOST WITH "LIVE" MUSIC) AND 20-MINUTES AWAY, THE HUGE OPRYLAND
COMPLEX. SOME PEOPLE GO TO NASHVILLE AND SPEND THEIR ENTIRE
TIME AT OPRYLAND, BUT YOU SHOULD SEE MUSIC ROW (BROADWAY STREET)
TOO, HOME OF THE FAMOUS RESTORED "RYMAN AUDITORIUM" WHERE
IT ALL STARTED WITH THE GRAND OLE OPRY SATURDAY NIGHT SHOW,

MAQUOKETA GOT OVER AN INCH OF RAIN OVER THE WEEKEND. THIS
WEEK, WE WILL HAVE 30-PLUS WEATHER UNTIL THURSDAY AND
IN THE MID 20'S FRIDAY. TODAY, MOSTLY CLOUDY AND SUNNY TOMORROW.

BIG STORY THIS MORNING! JUST BEFORE 1 THIS MORNING, MIKE AND KANDY
FRANZEN , WHO LIVE NORTH OF MONMOUTH, CAME CLOSE TO BEING KILLED
BY AN APPARENT ROBBER. KANDY HEARD A NOISE, AWOKE MIKE AND
SAID SOMEONE IS AT THE DOOR. THE DOOR BELL HAD RUNG. MIKE WENT
TO FRONT DOOR AND NO ONE WAS THERE. SINCE THEY ALSO HAVE A DOORBELL FOR THE BACK GARAGE DOOR, SHE SAID SOMEONE MUST BE AT THAT DOOR. MIKE OPENED IT AND THEN THE GARAGE DOOR AND THERE
A MAN STOOD WEARING A SKI MASK AND WITH A SHOTGUN IN HIS HAND. HE WAS JUST A FEW FEET FROM MIKE AND AIMED THE GUN AT HIS CHEST AND
MIKE VERY QUICKLY SLAMMED THE DOOR AND THE GUN WENT OFF
AND HIT THE STEEL DOOR. A COUPLE BEE-BEES GOT THROUGH AND
ONE HIT HIS HAND. HIS ONLY INJURY IS THE SLIGHT ONE TO HIS HAND. HE,
IN T-SHIRT AND UNDERWEAR, QUICKLY GOT KANDY (WHO HEARD
THE GUN SHOT AND THOUGHT MIKE WAS SHOT) AND THEY WENT OUTSIDE
AND STOOD BEHIND A TREE, LOOKING TO SEE IF THE MAN WAS STILL AROUND. AFTER A SHORT TIME, WHEN NOTHING COULD BE HEARD, MIKE TOLD KANDY WAS GOING INSIDE FOR A CELL PHONE. WHEN HE GOT THE CELL PHONE, HE WENT INTO THE BEDROOM AS HE DIDN'T WANT THE LIGHT ON THE CELL PHONE TO MAKE HIM A TARGET. HE CALLED FOR HELP AND SHERIFF DEPUTIES, AND A MAQUOKETA POLICEMAN WHERE ON THE SCENE IN 10 OR MORE MINUTES. SHORTLY AFTER, JOINED BY JONES COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTIES, THE OFFICERS SEARCHED THE MAIN HOUSE, THE OLDER HOME ON THE PROPERTY, OTHER OUT BUILDINGS AND FOUND NO ONE. FROM THE START, MIKE HAD SEEN ONLY ONE MAN AND HE WAS DESCRIBED AS WEARING BLUE JEANS, A GREEN SHIRT AND A BLACK SKI MASK. HE DIDN'T NOTICE IF HE WORE GLOVES. MIKE TOLD KMAQ NEWS THIS MORNING THAT HE FELT LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AND WAS GLAD THAT THE DOOR BETWEEN THE HOUSE AND GARAGE IS A STEEL DOOR. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE APPARENT ROBBER IS ASKED TO CALL THE JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AT 563-652-3312.
