PARTLY SUNNY TODAY...HIGH OF 78.
RAIN IN FORECAST TONIGHT AND TOMORROW.
DRY AND HOT WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
IT IS OFFICIAL! IT WAS A TORNADO! WEATHER EXPERTS SAY IT WAS AN EF-1
TORNADO THAT STRUCK THE NORTHERN PART OF MAQUOKETA SATURDAY
NIGHT. ANDY ERVIN, A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEROLOGIST IN
DAVENPORT HAS MADE THAT DETERMINATION. THE TORNADO WAS ESTIMATED
TO BE 150 YARDS WIDE. IT TRAVELED ABOUT 2.25 MILES WITH WIND SPEEDS
ESTIMATED AT 105 MILES PER HOUR.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT AT 7.
ON THE AGENDA......REPAIRS TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT MAIN AND PLATT WHICH
HAVE NOT BEEN WORKING FOR OVER A WEEK.
THEY STARTED WORK ON THE DOWNTWON CORNER BUILDING, WHICH WILL BE TAKEN DOWN SOON. NOT MUCH DONE YET, BUT WORK HAS STARTED.
AND, THEY STARTED HAULING IN BLACK DIRT TODAY TO SPREAD OVER THE
FILL SO WE CAN HAVE A GREEN SPACE THIS SUMMER WHERE THE BURNED OUT
BUILDINGS WERE.
THANKS AGAIN THIS YEAR TO AASE AND RICHARDT JOHANSEN OF DENMARK
FOR SENDING $10.00 TO BUY TWO ROTARY DUCKS FOR THE JUNE 21ST RACE.
THEY HAVE BEEN TO THE USA AND MAQUOKETA A COUPLE TIMES, VISITING FORMER MAQUOKETA RESIDENTS JERRY AND DOROTHY RASMUSSEN.
THE ROTARY APPRECIATES YOUR SUPPORT AASE AND RICHARDT! THEY
ARE REGULAR READERS OF THIS DAILY REPORT. THEY LIKED MAQUOKETA
ON THEIR VISITS AND LIKE TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE.
AND...THAT CONCLUDES MY "HAPPENINGS" FOR TODAY.
