THIS IS SCOTT DYKSRA, THE NEW PARK RANGER FOR THE MAQUOKETA CAVES
STATE PARK. HE SPOKE AT ROTARY TODAY, AT THE EAGLES CLUB, WHERE THEY
PLAY BINGO THURSDAY NIGHTS AND THAT IS THE BINGO BOARD IN THE BACKGROUND. HE STARTED WORK A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND CAME
HERE FROM THE LEWIS AND CLARK STATE PARK AT ONAWA, IN WESTERN IOWA.
THE UNI GRAD STARTED WITH THE DNR IN 2000 AND HE ASKED FOR THE
CAVES JOB TO BE CLOSER TO HUDSON, IOWA, HOMETOWN OF HIS
WIFE. HE WAS BORN AT WEST BEND. THE FAMILY HAS MOVED INTO
THE PARK RANGER HOUSE. THEY HAVE 3 GIRLS, AGE 8, 5 AND NEARLY 1.
HIS WIFE JILL IS A SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHER AND HOPES TO DO SOME SUBSTITUTING THIS YEAR AND GET A FULLTIME POSITION NEXT YEAR.
HE SAID THE MAQUOKETA CAVES PARK HAS HAD A BUSY SUMMER. LAST WEEKEND, ONCE AGAIN ALL 32 CAMPSITES WERE FILLED. HE SAID THEY COULD USE MORE SITES. AT LEWIS AND CLARK, THEY HAD 100. ALSO WOULD LIKE TO
SEE MORE PARKING AT THE MAQUOKETA PARK. HE'S VERY EXCITED ABOUT HIS
NEW JOB! NICE GUY! I'M SURE HE WILL DO WELL!
