WE HAD RAIN YESTERDAY...QUARTER OF AN INCH....AND A HALF-INCH THIS MORNING.
TEMPS ALL THIS WEEK WILL BE IN THE 7O'S.

MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT AT 7. SEVERAL THINGS ON THE AGENDA, INCLUDING THE FIRE MESS DOWNTOWN.
THE CITY HAS RECEIVED FUNDING FOR A TRAIL FROM THE EDGE OF MAIN STREET TO WAL MART.....$250,000. IT WILL BE DISCUSSED TONIGHT WITH MORE DETAILS.

DAVID JOHNSON TURNS 70 TOMORROW. HE WILL BE WORKING AT THE BANK TOMORROW, SO STOP OVER AND WISH HIM A HAPPY BIRTHDAY. HE STILL
PUTS IN TWO DAYS A WEEK AT M-S-B.

ASHFORD UNIVERSITY....A GROWING, PRIVATELY OWNED UNIVERSITY IN
CLINTON (FORMERLY MOUNT ST. CLAIR) IS HAVING AN INFORMATION
MEETING THIS THURSDAY, AUGUST 20TH FROM 4:30 UNTIL 6:30 P.M. AT THE MAQUOKETA PUBLIC LIBRARY. CLASSES START AUGUST 25TH. BOTH AT
THEIR CAMPUS IN CLINTON AND ON THE INTERNET. IN CLINTON, THEY
HAVE A SPORTS PROGRAM TOO. "GOOGLE" ASHFORD UNIVERSITY FOR
MORE INFORMATION ON THIS GROWING COLLEGE.

THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE OPENED AUGUST 11, 1950. IT'S 59TH ANNIVERSARY TIME AT THE 61! ONE OF THE FOUR ORIGINAL OWNERS, BETTY FRANKLIN, IS STILL LIVING, BUT I AM NOT SURE WHERE. NOT IN THIS AREA. WE'LL HAVE A SPECIAL CELEBRATION FOR THE 60TH NEXT SUMMER. I HAVE OWNED IT SINCE 1972. THE OPENING MOVIE BY THE WAY WAS "RACHAEL AND THE STRANGER" STARRING ROBERT MITCHUM AND LORRETA YOUNG. ADMISSION WAS 50 CENTS.
