PROGRESS ON BUSY WESTERN AVENUE. THE DONNA AND GALE STICKLEY HOUSE IS COMING DOWN. NO ONE HAD LIVED IN IT FOR YEARS. IN THE BACK IS THE
STICKLEY ELECTRIC SHOP AND IT HAS BEEN EXPANDED TO THE LEFT. I'M SURE WHEN IT IS LANDSCAPED AND COMPLETELY FINISHED, IT WILL BE A NICE NEW LOOK TO THE STREET. GOOD GOING DONNA, "STICK", DUANE AND MARY.
I'LL TAKE ANOTHER PICTURE WHEN THE JOB IS DONE!
WOW...SUNNY AND IN THE 50'S TODAY.....WARMER THAN EXPECTED. RAIN AND COLDER WEATHER COMING TOMORROW.
LAST NIGHT, THE PRESTON BOYS BEAT BELLEVUE MARQUETTE IN TOURNAMENT PLAY. WE BROADCAST THE GAME ON KMAQ-FM AND ON OUR INTERNET WEB PAGE.
AND, THIS MORNING, GOT WORD THAT LAST NIGHT WE HAD LISTENERS TO THE
GAME FROM OMAHA, TEXAS, CONNECTICUT, BOSTON AND ..... CHINA TOO. YES,
CHINA.
RUMOR HAS IT, SAGE ROSENFELTS MAY BE TRADED TO THE VIKINGS. FROM
HOT HOUSTON TO COLD MINNEAPOLIS....WHAT A CHANGE THAT WOULD BE.
THE VIKINGS NEED A GOOD QB.
DON BANOWETZ CALLED KMAQ THIS MORNING AND TALKED TO LEIGHTON
HEPKER. HE WAS A 1952 GRADUATE OF MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL. HE RESIDES IN HOUMA, LOUISIANA. THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL BAND HAS BEEN DOWN THERE THE PAST FEW DAYS TAKING PART IN MARDI GRAS CELEBRATIONS AND PERFORMED IN TWO PARADE. BANOWETZ'S DAUGHTER, KAYE KILBURG, TEACHES AT MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL AND HAS BEEN ON THE TRIP AS A CHAPERONE.
AND DON'S GRANDSON IS IN THE BAND. DON SAID MAQUOKETA HAS A GREAT
LOOKING BAND AND THEY ALL HAD A GOOD TIME. THE BAND ARRIVED BACK IN
MAQUOKETA THIS AFTERNOON.
BOBBY L. EVANS, 70, DIED FEBRUARY 18TH IN CONNECTICUT. HE WAS BORN IN MAQUOKETA. WAS IN THE ARMY AND WORKED FOR THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY AT LOCKHEED AND NORTHROP-GRUMAN. THE JACKSON COUNTY REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER (OUR HOSPITAL) COULD BE $1 MILLION IN THE RED BY THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR. BUSINESS AT THE HOSPITAL IS DOWN $600,000. ONE PROBLEM AREA: IT COST $780,000 A YEAR TO CONTRACT DOCTORS FOR 24-7 COVERAGE IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM. AND ER COSTS EXCEED ER INCOME. LOCAL DOCTORS DO NOT COVER EMERGENCY ROOM SERVICES. ALSO, BAD DEBT HAS INCREASED. THERE IS AROUND $80,000 A MONTH IN BAD DEBT.
JAKE BICKFORD, RETIRED, JUST WALKED IN FOR COFFEE UP THE STREET AT THE BAKERY, SO....WILL CLOSE FOR ANOTHER DAY.
THEN A LITTLE LATER, NANCY AND I WILL BE OFF TO ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE AT FIRST LUTHERAN AND SOUP SUPPER IN CHURCH BASEMENT AFTER, SPONSORED BY LITTLE SHEPHERD PRE-SCHOOL.
