JACKSON COUNTY WILL LOOSE THE USE OF JUDGES TWO DAYS A WEEK IN MAQUOKETA AFTER AN ORDER TO REDUCE PAYING TRAVEL COSTS TO JUDGES WAS ISSUED BY THE STATE SUPREME COURT. JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY CHRIS RAKER TOLD THE COUNTY SUPERVISORS THIS MORNING THAT IT MEANS THE JUDGES WHO NORMALLY WORK ON CIVIL CASES ON MONDAYS AND TUESDAY THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF EACH MONTH WILL NO LONGER TRAVEL TO JACKSON COUNTY. COUNTY RESIDENTS WHO HAVE CIVIL CASES WILL LIKELY HAVE TO GO TO CLINTON OR SCOTT COUNTY FOR T HIER CASES TO BE HEARD. THERE WILL STILL BE A JUDGE WHO COMES TO JACKSON COUNTY ON FRIDAYS FOR CRIMINAL ISSUES.
A MACHINE SHED AND ITS CONTENTS RECEIVED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE IN A FIRE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN RURAL MAQUOKETA. MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED BY STEVE WHITMORE, TO FIGHT THE FIRE AT HIS FARM, ON 35TH STREET.
FIRE WAS COMING FROM THE ROOF WHEN FIREMEN ARRIVED. WHITMORE WAS WORKING ON A MOTORCYCLE INSIDE THE SHED. HE DRAINED THE GAS IN THE HARLEY AND THE FUMES CAUGHT ON FIRE. NO INJURIES. LOST IN THE BLAZE...A TRUCK, BOAT, 3 HARLEY CYCLES AND MORE. ANDREW FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO HELP HAUL WATER.
ON THE STORK REPORT. ANESSA AND TROY PETERSON OF MAQUOKETA ARE PARENTS OF A BOY BORN MONDAY AT MERCY IN DUBUQUE. MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS ARE JULIE AND MARK MILLER OF MAQUOKETA. PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS ARE KATHY AND DON KUNDE OF MAQUOKETA.
