GROUNDBREAKING WILL BE SCHEDULED IN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS FOR A SATELLITE CAMPUS IN MAQUOKETA FOR CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
KAREN VICKER, THE COLLEGE PRESIDENT, SAID THEY ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE BUILDING BEING COMPLETED A YEAR FROM NOW. IT WILL BE CONSTRUCTED ON LAND AT THE CORNER OF SOUTH FIFTH STREET AND WASHINGTON STREET,
AT THE EDGE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SOLD THE COLLEGE THE LAND FOR $1.00. A CONTRACT HAS BEEN AWARDED TO THE LOW BIDDER, PORTZEN CONSTRUCTION OF DUBUQUE, FOR $1.7 MILLION. THE 11,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING WILL HAVE SEVERAL CLASSROOMS, COMPUTER LABS, AND A CAREER TECHNOLOGY LAB AS WELL AS A COMMUNITY ROOM. FUNDING WILL COME FROM THE PASSAGE OF A REFERENDUM LAST FALL WHICH INCLUDED THE MAQUOKETA BUILDING AND SEVERAL OTHER COLLEGE PROJECTS. ALSO, THE LATE JOHN FAGERLAND OF MAQUOKETA, WHO WAS A LONGTIME COLLEGE BOARD MEMBER, DONATED $250,000 TOWARD THE MAQUOKETA SATELLITE CAMPUS.
NO ONE FROM THE PUBLIC ATTENDED A HEARING THIS WEEK OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION ABOUT REZONING SOME PROPERTY ON WESTERN AVENUE. THE ZONING COMMISSION UNAMIOUSLY APPROVED A REQUEST FROM DUANE STICKLEY TO REZONE THE PROPERTY AT 113 WESTERN AVENUE FROM RESIDENTIAL TO BUSINESS. STICKLEY AND HIS FATHER, GALE, HAVE BEEN OPERATING THEIR ELECTRIC BUSINESS FROM THE SITE FOR ALMOST 50 YEARS.
PART OF THE PROPERTY IS ZONED RESIDENTIAL AND PART BUSINESS.
STICKLEY SAID HE PLANS TO DEMOLISH THE HOUSE ON THE PROPERTY AND BUILD A 35 BY 80-FOOT STORAGE BUILDING.
YES..THE PICTURE OF THE MOST POPULAR MAQUOKETA RESTAURANT (ON THIS REPORT EARLIER THIS WEEK) WAS OF BLUFF LAKE CATFISH FARM NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA, JUST BEYOND THE CAVES STATE PARK. HAD LOTS OF EMAILS AND ALL GUESSED IT. IT HAS NO SIGN ON BUILDING. LATELY, SATURDAY NIGHT
CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD TO WAIT AT LEAST 90-MINUTES TO GET SEATED.
IT WAS FEATURED BY BILL WUNDRUM IN THE QUAD CITY TIMES EARLIER THIS SUMMER. IT IS OPEN THURSDAY THRU SUNDAY.

SOMEONE IS CLEANING OUT THE BUILDING ON SOUTH MAIN THAT WAS SAVED IN THE JANUARY BIG FIRE. WHERE THE SUB SANDWICH SHOP WAS PLANNING TO OPEN. WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS WILL LOCATE THERE? I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN I FIND OUT. APPARENTLY IT WILL NOT BE A RESTAURANT.

YESTERDAY MORNING AT 3 A.M......THE JACKSON COUNTY DISPATCH CENTER RECEIVED THE REPORT OF A FIRE AT 7501 214TH AVE, JUST NORTH OF MAQUOKETA.
THE HOUSE/GARAGE FIRE WAS AT THE HOME OF STEVEN AND CINDY MUELLER AND UPON ARRIVAL, FIREMEN FOUND THE HOUSE FULL ENGULFED. MAQUOKETA, ANDREW, BALDWIN AND DELMAR FIRE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED TO THE SCENE.
THE STATE FIRE MARSHALL'S OFFICE WAS CALLED AND THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
SAGE ROSENFELTS STARTS ANOTHER SEASON SUNDAY AS BACKUP QUARTERBACK FOR THE HOUSTON TEXANS. HE WAS MAQUOKETA CARDINAL QUARTERBACK
AND ALSO THE IOWA STATE CYCLONE QB AND WENT PRO AFTER COLLEGE.
HAD A GOOD PRE-SEASON.
