SOMEONE TRIED TO BREAK INTO RONANN'S FLORAL SHOP ON HIGHWAY 64 WEST AND THE BURGLAR ALARM SOUNDED AT FLAPJACK RESTAURANT AND THIEVES DID NOT GAIN ENTRY AT EITHER PLACE. CHIEF DEPUTY ED CLARK SAID THEY ARE INVESTIGATING THE MOST CURRENT ATTEMPTED BURGLARIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS THAT OCCURED IN THE LAST WEEK.
THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MET WITH A DUBUQUE ATTORNEY IN CLOSED SESSION FOR NEARLY 40 MINUTES DURING A SPECIAL MEETING LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. IN OPEN SESSION, THE COUNCIL VOTED TO PROCEED WITH THE DIRECTION DISCUSSED IN CLOSED SESSION. BUT THE MAYOR, CITY MANAGER, AND COUNCIL MEMBERS DECLINED TO SAY WHAT WAS HAPPENING. HOWEVER, IT IS MOST LIKELY THAT IT CONCERS A LEGAL ISSUE WITH THE HURST HOTEL APARTMENTS.
