A MAQUOKETA COUPLE IS IN JAIL AFTER MAQUOKETA POLIC OFFICERS FOUND 202 GRAMS OF MARIJUANA AT THEIR HOME AT 209 WEST GROVE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. CHARGED ... 40 YEAR OLD CHRISTINA EDWARDS AND 37 YEAR OLD DWAYNE EDWARDS.
NEW CALENDAR FOR THE 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR IN MAQUOKETA WAS APPROVED LAST NIGHT. SCHOOL WILL START AUGUST 18TH, A MONDAY, AND THE FIRST SEMESTER WILL END DECEMBER 19TH. THEN THE TWO WEEK CHRISTMAS VACATION. THREE DAYS OF EASTER VACATION AND THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
WILL BE MAY 22ND 2009. THE REASON FOR THE EARLIER DATES IS THAT THE OLD CALENDAR MADE IT HARD FOR STUDENTS TO HAVE CHRISTMAS VACATION AND THEN COME BACK FOR SEMESTER TESTS.
THE MAQUOKETA AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL BREAKFAST WAS HELD
THIS MORNING AT THE DECKER HOTEL. THE MEETING WAS CONDUCTED BY PRESIDENT DON SCHWENKER. HE JUST FINISHED HIS TERM AND AT THE REQUEST OF THE BOARD, WILL BE PRESIDENT FOR A 2ND YEAR. AMY MITCHELL, FINISHING HER TERM ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, WAS PRESENTED WITH A PLAQUE.
SCHWENKER PRESENTED THE ANNUAL PRESIDENT'S AWARD TO PAUL HAHLE, OWNER OF THE OLD LUMBER YARD AND LONGTIME MAQUOKETA BUSINESS OWNER AND PAST MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL. STACY DRISCOLL, THE CHAMBER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, GAVE HER ANNUAL AWARD TO ERIN REDDEL, WHO WAS THE INTERN AT THE CHAMBER THIS PAST YEAR AND WAS THE LEAD PERSON IN DEVELOPING A NEW WEB SITE THAT SERVES BOTH THE CHAMBER AND THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA.
