NICE BUT HOT TODAY...HIGH MID 80'S. WILL BE HOT AND DRY ALL WEEK.
MIGHT HIT 90 BY MID-WEEK.
THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR WAS A GOOD ONE. GOOD WEATHER. GOOD ATTENDANCE. TOTAL FOR THE RUN WAS 18,674. THE BEST ATTENDANCE DURING THE LAST 10 YEARS WAS 19,261 IN 2005.
LAST NIGHT, KAREN LANE WON THE $500 ATTENDANCE DRAWING.
ROSE GILMORE WON THE QUILT RAFFLE.
THE GRAND CHAMP STEER WAS SHOWN BY CHANCE DEPPE OF RURAL MAQUOKETA.
GOOD CROWD, BUT NOT FULL HOUSE, FOR THE SAWYER BROWN SHOW. AND THE AUDIENCE LOVED IT.
LANNY SIMPSON, MANAGER OF THE FAIRBOARD, WAS ON TODAY'S "JUST TALK" SHOW ON KMAQ AND REPORTED SHE AND THE BOARD WERE PLEASED WITH THE FAIR.
THE DEADLINE FOR NOMINATION PAPERS TO BE FILED FOR SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION DAY, IS THIS THURSDAY. TROY THEDE HAS ANNOUNCED HE WILL NOT RUN FOR RE-ELECTION, BECAUSE OF TIME CONSTRAINTS. HE WAS APPOINTED LAST YEAR TO FILL THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF LESLIE LAWSON. MARY BARTELS SAYS SHE WILL SEEK RE-ELECTION. SHE IS COMPLETING HER SECOND TERM ON THE BOARD. MARK PAPE HAS FILED NOMINATION PAPERS AND SO HAS MARTY
HUDRLIK.
A SIOUX CITY MAN WAS JAILED ON DRUNK DRIVING CHARGES AFTER HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS TRUCK EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AND CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF PAUL HAHLE'S HOME ON SOUTH PROSPECT. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE FRONT STEPS AND RAILING AND THE ESTIMATE IS $1,500. PAUL'S HOUSE WAS HIT BY A VEHICLE MANY YEARS AGO AND THAT TIME, IT PUT A HOLE IN THE HOUSE.
DR. JOHN BROMAN FELL IN HIS HOME AND CRACKED HIS HIP AND IS A PATIENT
AT MERCY HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE.
A WELL-KNOWN FORMER MAQUOKETA BUSINESSMAN DIED OF AN APPARENT HEART ATTACK YESTERDAY. I'LL HAVE MORE TOMORROW.
THE AUCTION TO DUNK JACKSON COUNTY CITIZENS IN THE SOFTBALL DUNK TANK
LAST NIGHT AT THE FAIR WENT WELL. FOR MY HIGH BID OF $80, I GOT TO DUNK KMAQ ENGINEER-ANNOUNCER AND MAYOR TOM MESSERLI. HIT THE TARGET WITH THE 3RD BALL.
MY ONLY COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FAIR? THE DRUM AND BUGLE CORP FROM DUBUQUE WAS IN THE PARADE, AND LOOKED AND SOUNDED SHARP. OVER 100 TALENTED HIGH SCHOOL AGE KIDS. BUT, THEIR MARCHING WAS DISTRACTED BY TOO MANY ADULTS MARCHING ALONG WITH THE BAND WITH WATER BOTTLES THAT WERE USED TO SQUIRT WATER.....GIVING THE MARCHERS A DRINK. IF THE KIDS REALLY NEED SO MUCH WATER, THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY TO DO THIS.
THE FULTON CHURCH HELD A PICNIC YESTERDAY, AND LONGTIME HORSESHOE PITCHER RED HENTON DID SOME PITCHING AND STILL HAS THAT EYE AND HAND FOR PITCHING RINGERS. RED ALSO SOUNDED PRETTY GOOD AS USUAL FRIDAY AFTERNOON ENTERTAINING SENIORS AT THE FAIR WITH 90-MINUTES WORTH OF MUSICAL FAVORITES. NOT SURE HOW IS FISHING SKILLS ARE THESE DAYS THOUGH.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK.
