NOT HUMID TODAY, BUT STILL HOT. 88.
THE CELEBRATION SINGERS AND JAZZ BAND SHOW, SPONSORED BY KMAQ, AND HELD LAST NIGHT HERE IN MAQUOKETA, WAS A SUCCESS. GOOD
SHOW AND GOOD TURNOUT. KAREN HART FROM CALAMUS-WHEATLAND AREA WAS FEATURED SEVERAL TIMES, AND A LONGTIME BAND INSTRUCTOR FROM WHEATLAND WAS THERE AND HAD GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THE SHOW AND AUDITORIUM. PRIOR TO THE SHOW, KMAQ HOSTED A DINNER FOR THE GROUP AT THE HURSTVILLE INTREPRETIVE CENTER AND GREAT FOOD BY THE EAGLES CLUB AUXILIARY. THEY STAYED OVER NIGHT AT SOME TWENTY HOMES AND SPECIAL THANKS FROM KMAQ TO THOSE HOST HOMEOWNERS.
THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS LOOKING AT ESTABLASHING AN ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE FOR THE COUNTY.
IT WOULD BASICALLY DEAL WITH PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS HAVING EXOTIC ANIMALS ON THEIR PROPERTY.
YESTERDAY WAS NOMINATION DEADLINE DAY FOR THE SEPTEMBER SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION. MAQUOKETA INCUMBENT BRIAN TABOR IS SEEKING RE-ELECTION FOR ONE POSITION AND HE WILL HAVE NO OPPOSITON.
LEIGHTON HEPKER, STATION MANAGER OF KMAQ, IS GETTING OLDER.
A LITTLE FORGETFUL TOO. HE'S ALSO READY FOR A VACATION NEXT WEEK. HE SENDS APOLOGIES TO BURT DOSTAL OF MAQUOKETA WHO TOOK PART IN THE MAQUOKETA BEARS BASEBALL REUNION THIS WEEK.
LEIGHTON FORGOT TO LIST BURT AS AMONG PLAYERS WHO TOOK PART
WHEN HE DID A STORY FOR KMAQ.
ANDY CLARK, MANAGER OF THE SUPER 8 MOTEL IN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS, IS AN AVID GOLFER. AND GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME.
HE'S A LEFTY...PROBABLY THE BEST IN TOWN. YESTERDAY, HE SHOT HIS BEST ROUND....35-34. GOOD GOING ANDY. HIS WIFE CHERYL, LONGTIME STAFF MEMBER OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OFFICE, IS ALSO AN AVID GOLFER...AND SHE TOO IS LEFT HANDED.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.
