WAS JUST AT A "BUSINESS AFTER HOURS" CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EVENT
AT US BANK IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. HAD A NICE CONVERSATION WITH LONGTIME BUSINESSMAN ROSS RIVER, WHO CAME TO MAQUOKETA AS AN AG TEACHER ASSISTANT IN 1950. THEN WORKED AS A 4-H EXTENSION PERSON AND WENT INTO BUSINESS SOON AFTER. HE TOLD ME THAT HIS IS BUILDING A WICK MODULAR HOME FOR THE METHODIST CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA, TO BE A PARSONAGE FOR THE NEW MINISTER AND HIS FAMILY EFFECTIVE JULY 1ST. ROSS HAD A STRANGE ILLNESS LAST YEAR, LOST ABOUT 50 POUNDS AND IS NOW OVER THAT AND LOOKS GREAT. HAS GAINED HIS WEIGHT BACK AND AT 77, IS READY FOR MORE YEARS OF SALES. HE'S BEEN A GOOD COMMUNITY LEADER OVER THE YEARS TOO, AS HAS HIS WIFE, VIVIAN. SHE WAS A FORMER SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER FOR MANY YEARS.
AT THE SUPERVIORSO MEETING TODAY, IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT MARCIA CAMP OF PRESTON IS A NEW EMPLOYEE OF THE RECORDER'S OFFICE, HIRED BY INTERIM RECORDER, ARLENE SCHAUF. SHE HAD BEEN WORKING AT THE ASSESSOR'S OFFICE. SHE STARTS AT $11.77 AN HOUR .
AND IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT DR. ROB DEEGAN OF MAQUOKETA,

A SEARCH WILL GET UNDERWAY FOR A REPLACEMENT.
