MOSTLY CLOUDY TODAY....A FEW SPRINKLES NOW AND THEN AND
A HIGH NEAR 60.

AT LAST NIGHT'S CITY COUNCIL MEETING, MAYOR TOM MESSERLI APPOINTED SUSAN CROATT TO THE MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC UTILITY BOARD. SHE IS THE ESTIMATOR AND PROJECT MANAGER FOR
G. L. STOCKHAM AND SON IN MAQUOKETA. IT HAS BEEN 5 MONTHS
SINCE THE MAYOR REFUSED TO RE-APPOINT KENT SHOUSE TO THE BOARD.
THE MAYOR DID NOT GET APPROVAL ON ANY OF HIS PRIOR NOMINATIONS UNTIL LAST NIGHT. CROATT WILL BE THE 2ND WOMAN ON THE 5-MEMBER BOARD.

MAQUOKETA'S WATER SMELLS LIKE BLEACH AND HAS A BAD TASTE, BUT OFFICIALS SAY IT'S TEMPORARY. THE WATER IS SAFE TO DRINK.
THE PROBLEM MAY BE THAT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH CHLORINE IN THE WATER. CREWS ARE FLUSHING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM AND ONCE THEY ARE DONE DOING THIS, THEY WILL ADD MORE CHLORINE AND SEE IF THAT MAKES THE WATER SMELL AND TASTE BETTER. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE TESTS FOR RADIUM CAME BACK AND THE CITY IS NOW WITHIN THE RANGE STIPULATED BY THE STATE. SO, THE $4-MILLION WATER PROJECT HAS RESOLVED THE RADIUM PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN IN RESTAURANTS WHERE THEY PUT A LEMON SLICE WITH THE WATER FOR BETTER TASTE AND SMELL. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.

JACK ROSENBERG ASKED THE COUNCIL FOR PERMISSION TO EXCEED THE CITY NOISE LIMITS FOR A MAY 27TH WEDDING PARTY AT HIS HOME.
IT WAS TURNED DOWN. APPARENTLY THE CITY HAS TURNED DOWN SUCH REQUESTS IN THE PAST.

JEANETTE WELCH, 69, OF MAQUOKETA DIED YESTERDAY AT HER HOME.
YOU CAN READ HER OBITUARY AT www.carsonandson.com

KMAQ ANNOUNCES A LUCKY PHONE NUMBER EACH DAY AND THE PRIZE GOES UP $1 A DAY UNTIL ANSWERED AND THEN STARTS OVER AGAIN AT $5.
IF THE LISTENER HEARS HIS/HER NUMBER, THEY MUST CALL WITHIN 5 MINUTES TO CLAIM THE PRIZE. YESTERDAY'S WINNER WAS CHARLENE JOHNSON OF HIGHWAY 64 EAST MAQUOKETA. HER $30 PRIZE WAS THE BIGGEST SO FAR THIS YEAR.

THE NEW OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER SIGN....LOOKS GREAT...ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. IT FEATURES A COMPUTER DRIVEN
MESAGE BOARD, TELLING ABOUT UPCOMING PRODUCTIONS.

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY.
