NICE YESTERDAY!
NICE TODAY, A LITTLE WARMER.
MIGHT HIT 90 FOR ONE DAY ONLY, TOMORROW.

YESTERDAY, THE KMAQ TRAVEL BUS TRIP TO SPRINGFIELD TO VISIT THE NEW DOWNTOWN ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL MUSEUM WENT WELL. EVERYONE HAD A GOOD TIME. IN A WORD....THE MUSEUM IS....AWESOME. GO SEE IT!

THE MAQUOKETA WATER DEPARTMENT CREWS ARE STILL TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY THE CITY'S WATER HAS A BLEACH SMELL AND TASTES BAD. THERE WERE COMPLAINTS AGAIN TODAY ON KMAQ'S "JUST TALK" SHOW. THE CITY MANAGER SAID THE WATER IS SAFE TO DRINK AND THE RADIUM PROBLEM
HAS BEEN FIXED, THANKS TO THE $4-MILLIN DOLLAR PROJECT.
FRANKLY, I HAVE NOT NOTICED THE ODOR OR BAD TASTE. BUT AT MY HOUSE,
MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WHEN UP FROM BETTENDORF LAST WEEK, NOTICED IT IMMEDIATELY.

ABOUT 50 PEOPLE WATCHED AS THE FIRST SPADE OF DIRT WAS TURNED FOR THE NEW ARC AT MATTESON AND SUMMIT STREETS LAST NIGHT.
GLENN BARTELT, ARC CHAIRMAN, WAS THE EMCEE. THE ARC HAS BEEN 7 YEARS IN THE MAKING. AND, CONSTRUCTION WON'T START FOR ANOTHER COUPLE MONTHS OR MORE. WHY THEY HAD THE GROUND BREAKING EARLY, I DON'T KNOW. THE REASON THE WORK WON'T START NOW IS THAT THE ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS HAVE TO RE-DESIGN A PORTION OF THE POOL, TO EXPAND IT BY TWO MORE LANES.

MYRA AND BRIAN GROSS OF MAQUOKETA ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL, BORN THE NIGHT OF JUNE 27TH, AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. MATERNAL GRANDMOTHER IS HONOR CLARK OF MAQUOKETA.

NO DEATHS TO REPORT.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.

MEANWHILE, THE GIRL'S SOFTBALL TEAM CONTINUES TO WIN.

TOMORROW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHARLIE CLASEN. AND FRIDAY, TO JERRY RASMUSSEN. AND FRIDAY ALSO TO SUE KORANDA, NOW A RESIDENT WITH HUSBAND ARNOLD DOWN IN FLORIDA.

WILLIAM BRAXTON HAMMER, AGE 30, FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED AT HIS HOME YESTERDAY IN FORT DODGE.
