THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK GAVE MORE MONEY RECENTLY TO THE NEW OHNWARD FINE ARTS CENTER AUDITORIUM ON EAST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA. THE MAQUOKETA AREA FOUNDATION ALSO GAVE ANOTHER $25,000. GARY DREW, THE MAN BEHIND THIS NEW FACILITY, SAID THAT $100,000 FINISHES THE FUNDING FOR THE CENTER, BEING BUILDT ON EAST PLATT STREET PRIMARILY BY VOLUNTEERS.
DREW SAID THE ENTIRE PROJECT IS COMING IN UNDER $900,000. A BIG PAVED PARKING LOT WAS FINISHED A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. NOW THE SEATS WILL BE ARRIVING SOON AND INSTALLED, AND WILL TOTAL 841. THE SEAT DRIVE CONTINUES WITH CITIZENS BEING ASKED TO DONATE $250 PER SEAT AND THE PERSON'S NAME WILL BE ON A PLATE ON THE SEAT AS BEING THE DONAR OF THAT SEAT. THE AUDITORIUM WILL BE USED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON DECEMBER 18TH FOR THE ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL ADVENT SING, WHICH THIS, THE 50TH YEAR, WILL ALSO FEATURE MANY ALUMNI SINGERS. GARY DREW ALSO TOLD KMAQ THAT THERE IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND FOR THE CENTER AND THAT IT ALREADY HAS AROUND $200,000 IN IT AT THIS TIME , AND THAT THE ENDOWMENT FUND (SPENDING ONLY THE INTEREST) MONEY WILL BE USED FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE BUILDING OVER THE YEARS TO COME.
A FORMER MAQUOKETA AREA RESIDENT, ELMER DUHME DIED THIS WEEK AT MARION, IOWA. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, BEULAH AND A DAUGHTER NANCY AND A SON FRED.
