LAST FRIDAY, A DRIVER IN A FUNERAL PROCESSION HAD A SEIZURE AND RAN INTO A UTILITY POLE ON SUMMIT STREET. ADAM GREGORY, 23, WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. TWO PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY PRIVATE VEHICLE.

OWL FURNITURE, MAQUOKETA, SAGEVILLE AND CUBA CITY, IS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. MAJORITY OWNER TOM HOHMAN, IN A DUBUQUE TH STORY, SAID
BECAUSE OF HIS BATTLE WITH COLON CANCER, HE DECIDED TO CLOSE THE 3-STORE BUSINESS. THE SALE STARTS SOON AND IS EXPECTED TO LAST UP TO 10 WEEKS.
AT THE END OF SALE, ALL 3 BUILDINGS WILL BE SOLD. THE FIRST STORE WAS STARTED BY HIS FATHER RAY (WHO THIS YEAR DIED AT THE AGE OF 97,) AT SAGEVILLE AND THE MAQUOKETA STORE WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1987. THERE ARE 15 TOTAL EMPLOYEES. WHEN IT CLOSES, THERE WILL BE JUST ONE OTHER FURNITURE STORE IN JACKSON COUNTY, THAT BEING JACKSON COUNTY HOME FURNISHINGS IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA. HOWEVER, AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING LAST NIGHT, COUNCILMAN LEARNED FROM OWNER RICK DECKER THAT HE HAS LEASED HIS STORE (THE SOUTH END OF TANDEM TIRE) TO A FIRM THAT WILL OPEN A FURNITURE AND APPLIANCE STORE ON DECEMBER 1ST. IT WILL BE THE 8TH STORE BY THE COMPANY. MORE DETAILS SOON. DECKER WAS AT THE COUNCIL MEETING TO ASK FOR 30-MINUTE PARKING FOR THE 4 SPACES NEXT TO THE BUILDING AND COUNCILMEN ARE GOING TO AGREE TO DO THIS.

MAQUOKETA HAS A NEW POLICE OFFICER. JASON THOMSON, AGE 29, STARTED MONDAY. HE HAD BEEN A PARTIME OFFICER IN SABULA. HE'S A PIPEFITTER AND IS A GRADUATE ALSO OF THE IOWA LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY. HE AND HIS WIFE MELINDA PLAN TO MOVE TO MAQUOKETA. THEY HAVE NO CHILDREN.

FOUR MORE CARS HAVE BEEN REPORTED KEYED AT BRAD DEERY MOTORS.
AND SUNSHINE SCHOOL REPORTED SOMEONE THREW A ROCK THROUGH THEIR FRONT BUILDING.

MARVIN AND LORI MASSEY ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN SATURDAY AT FINLEY IN DUBUQUE. GRANDPARENTS ARE ALVIN AND VERA BARTEN OF MAQUOKETA....AND REX AND BARB DAGUE OF MAQUOKETA.

KURT AND ERIN MCCAULLEY OF MAQUOKETA ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN MONDAY OCT. 11TH AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. GRANDPARENTS ARE MIKE AND MARY PAT BURNS OF MAQUOKETA. GREAT GRAND-PARENTS ARE SHERM AND BETTY BURNS OF MAQUOKETA AND DR. JOE AND KAY LECHTENBERG OF MAQUOKETA.
